which side of T-stat goes into tstat housing

Exactly what i asked above? im replacing thermastat housing because i had a FMS chrome one and it started to leave with a rubber gasket. Just wondering which side of the T-stat goes into the housing? Side without the spring i was thinking. Also should i use some sort of RTV to glue the gasket onto the T-stat housing so it stays in? thanks

read the box, pellet goes into the intake. Use a light coat of RTV.

the box? im using the old T-stat that i just put in the car a few months ago. lol So the side with the spring goes into the t-stat housing

Always remember "spring in." The spring side of the stat goes into the intake.

the spring side is exposed to the coolant even when the t-stat is closed. that's how it works. therefore, the spring should be on the block side of the t-stat housing.

Cool i put my new factory housing on and my 180 stat with the spring in the intake. use RTV to hold the T-stat to the housing and then in between the gasket to seal it up hopefully it works this time. Going to let it dry though overnite so i wont no till tomarrow.

A lot of peeps are having problems with them leaking because of warping. I learned that after RC went through his dilema of trying to fix the leak. I learned from his exp that the leak I had was because of that also. I took it off and it was warped as hell, so I took a Dremel and grinded it back down smooth and used an excessive amount of black RTV on it. I was not in a hurry and let it sit for 2 days and it has not leaked again with no gasket what so ever just RTV. Take at look at the bootom of your housing with a straight edge.
