Which Subframe connector?????

Which subframe connector do you all recommend to get for a 97GT. I dont want to spend more than $120 Please give me the names and websites where i can find them. I have heard the Steedas are good, but anymore than you all recommend?

I have a convertible so I went with the Steeda full-length subframe connectors. They cost me $119.95 from steeda.com. It cost me an additional $255 to have them welded on.

$255 just to weld them on? damn why soo much. how long does it take?
Do u feel a difference with the subframes on?

I felt a huge difference after having my Maximum Motorsports sfc's welded in - it's especially noticeable on any uneven surface. As far as install, I did them with a buddy and a rented tig welder. We put them on the full lift at a shop and used the frame lift to hold them in place. Took about 2 hours to get them in, lined up and welded. If you do them yourself, use a grinder to clean up the areas you're going to weld and remember to paint them afterward to prevent rust.

$255 was the charge by a professional welder. Was I robbed? I was planning to use this same guy to weld my Steeda 4-point roll bar.

The full-length subframe connectors made a huge difference in my convertible. Previously, a bumpy road meant lots of rattles especially from the dash board. Now the car is much more solid. I noticed a little more stability when I added the Steeda Strut Tower Brace.

Granted, welding takes some skill, but we did a good job in two hours. Figure that's about $125/hour for a "professional welder". If the money is spent and you're satisfied with the work then it's probably worth it. I don't think you got robbed, but it might have been a little bit much. Also, some guys will not weld under the seats without removing the carpet, etc. so there may be additional work involved.

Subframes? Don't waste your time and money unless you have a vert OR are putting down lots and lots of power over stock. If you have a vert, you will notice an improvement and it is money well spent in my opinion.

Full lengths are only needed if you are adding a roll cage.

You need to consider the materials that they are made from. Most are just steel, but some are made of stronger and lighter alloys. I went with the Steeda Chrome Alloy and paid $99 if I remember - including freight. They were installed by a Mustang speed shop, CJ Pony in Harrisburg, PA. They did a very professional job and charged 2 hours at $55 each hour. This included grinding, welding in place, and painting.

I also have a 1996 Vert and was wondering what will feel different if I get the full length sub-frame connectors? Will the car feel more sturdy over bumps?

The chassis will feel a lot more solid once you get your SFC. www.maximummotorsports.com

$125 is average for welding done at a muffler shop.

***Make sure the welder has a DRIVE-ON lift.

My .02 is Maximum Motorsports full-length subframes. It is the very next thing i am gonna do....Right after i finish breaking in the 3.73's, installing my new custom tune SCT flasher from the guys at Modular Depot that is sittin on my dresser, and get the Flowmaster American Thunder cat-back installed in a week and a half

I posted a thread a while back after I got my MM SFC welded in 2 weeks ago.

The shop quoted $40 PER SIDE. So $80 total. He finished in 1 and a half hours. Car handles great. I can really felt the difference. I can take conor without my ass floating off the seat all over the place now

$255 is a lot for just welding... I don't know man.

Got my MM SFC full-length powder coated for $151 shipped

I just had sfc's installed in my 97 coupe. You can feel a difference and it is worth it. I paid $219 installed. They were supposed to be Kenne Brown Super Subs but the shop was out of stock so he installed a set that he was holding for another customer that he said were stronger then the KB's. I forget what the brand was. Anyway I've heard that the Kenne Brown Super Subs are good and Maximum Motorsports always has nice quality stuff.

Some subframes, require the rear seats to be removed to be installed. This my be why he was quoted so much.

I got the Kenny Brown Supers, very nicely installed by CJ Pony Parts for about $110 (parts were about $100). I have a coupe, and I don't put down more than maybe 5 hp over stock, but they still made a world of difference. I don't drive my car hard, either. It's all in how the car tracks now over uneven pavement, and how it takes bumps, both at low and at high speeds. I noticed a pretty big difference overall . . . the car feels a whole lot more like the new Bullitt I test drove back in '01 (the Bullitt as you may know has the bolt-on stock Mustang convertible subframes underneath, which are not nearly as stiff as weld-ons, but the Bullitt also has better springs and shocks too that make it handle a bit better than a stock GT).

I don't have a 'vert so I can't speak from experience, but when I was researching the benefits of SFCs I encountered many people who would say yes. Check out the parts reviews on this website - many are from '99 and up 'vert owners ('99 was first year for SFCs on all convertibles, I think but I could be wrong).

I think that SFC's should ABSOLUTELY be put on every Mustang out there. Also, it is way too cheap a mod to pass on considering how much help they provide. IMO, regular length (does not go all the way to firewall) SFC's are perfectly fine for non-hardcore cars. In your price range, I would recommend Kenny Brown Super Subs. I really like mine. You can find them for $80 or $90 advertised in MM&FF. To get them welded in, just take them to a muffler shop -- it should cost no more than $60-80 to get them in. When having them welded in, make sure the car is on a drive-on lift so the weight of the car is still "loaded" (weight is still on the wheels). Do not even consider not getting SFC's. Your only question should be which type of weld-in SFC's you are going to get ... this is true for BOTH hardtop and vert owners.
