I have this whirring sound that increases in pitch as I hit the accelerator. I thought I had a bad tensioner pulley and changed it out (it did have a bad bearing) but I still have this noise. Now that I have listened to it closer it sounds like it is coming from the IAC. Anyone know if it would make a noise like this if it were bad or am I hearing something else from the upper plenum area?

Nah...I've considered that but It's not coming from the alt. I guess I might just replace the IAC and see if that is it. Its wierd...It almost sounds like a growling tomcat just before he gets in a fight if you know that sound.sgramer said:Sure it is not your ALT. I have a simular noise, and it sounds like it is my ALT.

No, but I know my car makes a weird noise like you say yours does.
And it comes from the same approx. area.

I would replace it. At Rangerpowersports.com we would discribe the IAC sound as a "howl" or "humm". Some guys tried cleaning them but that wouldn't work for long. Pearl02.
So a trip to the parts store Monday morning. I've been having trouble with it shutting down after start-up for a while and I just cleaned it after I swapped my TB and plenum. I guess my borrowed time is up.

Did the new IAC fix the problem? I am having a howling noise as well and almost replaced the IAC, but when I got it to howl with the hood up the noise is definately coming from the air box. I have another thread on this but wanted to know how yours came out.
