Who else has had the gears polished

Who else has had the grears polished at Mikronite. I have sent my 3.73 FRPP Gear and Pinon set into Mikronite for polishing

As soon as the gears are installed and you drive around on them, any effect from a polish job will immediatly wear off.

No the polish will not wear off it is a harding in process that last for ever.

Cost $200.00

As soon as the gears are installed and you drive around on them, any effect from a polish job will immediatly wear off.

i dont think something like thats worth it unless you're driving a full out race car. for a street strip stang, $200 could go elsewhere. Just my .02

Wow.. I've been around racing and Mustangs for over 13 years, and have NEVER heard of that... That's pretty inventive... Anything that is "metal on metal" will have friction... There is NO WAY the gears would keep thier polished shape... NO WAY.. It just physically doesn't make sense..

actually, it may work. It makes sense that parts that constantly rub against each other would be better served by being polished rather than rough. And if the process does indeed harden the surfaces, I would assume this would be more durable, as long as both surfaces were of a similar hardness.

It appears they can apply a desired finish to a part based on the intended use, not just polish everything to the same mirror finish. This would lead me to believe their process is not simply a gimmick. I'm not saying it's worth it, but $200 isn't an incredible amount of money to spend on a car.

i polished and powdercoat muffler bearings for $500. it will make your stang haul ballz!!!

I think it may be more for true drag racers. Then there should be no break in time when they swap gears at the track.......

And one of the biggest compliance about the FRPP gear and pinon in the amount of noise they make. This will reduce the noise of the gears and have a longer life.

Regardless of whether it's polished, chrome, whatever, it's still metal on metal, there's still going to be noise, and there's still going to be drag.

Stock gears Ford puts in are FMS/FRPP/Ford gears. FRPP and FMS are the same product, FRPP just named such to appeal to the muscle car types. I never had noises with my stock FMS gears, and don't have any on my 3.73's either.

my frpp gears dont make noise,but i had them lined up correct too,i also polished mine when i left the parking lot from getting them installed.

Or do you spend all of your time on here. There was a great article in one of the Mustang magazines (50mustangs and fast fords or muscle mustangs and fast fords) about this. The parts are not polished but basically sanded to a SUPER smooth surface to a point they look polished. The parts are put in a machine that has a sandy material in it that spins and turns the parts inside the machine. It goes thru several different stages with smaller and smaller "grit" material until the end when they are mirror smooth. There is a hardening process also.

It does not wear off. RUB TWO MIRRORS TOGETHER WITH A LUBRICANT BETWEEN THEM AND LET ME KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES BEFORE THE MIRRORS LOOSE THEIR SMOOTHNESS. See you in a million years. It reduces friction which in turn yeilds a little horse power gain and makes them stronger and I would believe reduce heat.

You can apply this process to engine parts also.

It is expensive but it is not rediculous. I think it is hilarious that you guys down a product when you do not even know a thing about it. Makes me wonder about the opinions I have recieved from you on previous questions I have asked you.

I am not quoting the article by the way. Just realting from my memory so I may not be 100% accurate. But I do remember reading the article and being impressed.
