title pretty much says it all. i'm trying to figure out which pushrods will work best with this combination. my heads have been completely rebuilt so i am certain they were shaved just a bit. any input?
stock push rods with my 1.7 Motorsport roller rockers (Crane) on ported E7 heads with Crane performance roller hydraulic lifters and Crane performance valve springs and E303 cam - on my 1993 GT convertible and stock pushrods on my other 1993 engine with stock cam, stock springs and 1.7 Motorsport roller rockers (Crane) - no problems -- the Convertible has a little noiser rocker sound than the other fairly stock engine - especially the first 3 seconds when started - I am told that is normal and may even get better with use as it only has 15 miles on the rebuild now
no shims on either of my engines - heads were not shaved and the block was not decked on either and used hydraulic roller lifters -- you will need to probably remove and fabricate a sheet metal oil filler baffle if you re-use the stock valve covers as the 1.7s rollers may hit it
wow, I can't believe you guys didn't need shims. both my bro and I installed 1.7's on stock unrebuilt gt40 heads, and we both needed shims on the rr's. IMO, if you do the rr adjustment properly, you're gonna need shims.
It doesn't really matter what happened on someone else's engine -- on yours (foxbody) you're gonna have to mock it up and measure to determine proper pushrod length. Even combos with the same parts have different dimensions when you start measuring down at the .01"-.001" range. Who knows if others' heads/decks have been cut, what base circle cam they had, etc. Mock it up and measure -- the only way to know for certain what length pushrods you'll need. You can get a checker from Summit for less than $20.
And if they truly were 'shaved just a bit' you'll likely fine that you'll be OK with stock pushrods and shims where required. Using the proper installation procedure will tell you where you need shims or not.
