I had to weigh it for my move that is coming soon.

It really is a bit of a shock how weight can vary from one Fox to another. It all comes down to options and body style and year. The difference in weight between a fully loaded '93 GT vert and a no option '79-85 coupe can easily be as much as 500 pounds. When you start throwing on 17 inch wheels and huge tires, superchargers, nitrous kits, roll cages, subs and amps etc, you can easily build a car that weighs 3500+ pounds even with aluminum heads. Then again, build a coupe with light weight wheels like Draglites, throw in a tubular K member and A arms, get aluminum control arms, rip out the sound deadening and trunk panels, swap in a fuel cell, built a stout carbed engine aluminum heads and with no AC and manual steering, get a pin on fiberglass hood (usually lighter than the bolt on kind), swap out the steel bumpers for the older aluminum versions, get light weight racing seats, rip out the stereo..etc, and you can easily build a car that weighs a scant 2600 pounds.

Sure, with enough power anything can be fast....take the Terminator Cobras and the GT500 as good examples. They're pigs but with their blown engines and awesome brakes, you can get away with that. Then again, that same 500hp in a 2600lb car is going to be a LOT faster. Power to weight ratios are really fascinating IMO. The lighter you make a car, the less power you need to be as fast as the next guy and everything from accelerating to braking to cornering and even mpg will improve with less weight.

Part of the variance is the scales calibration, factory options (a/c, airbag) and also the weight reduction many people have did. Also, the amount of gas can vary, as each gallon weighs 8 lbs itself. A half a tank for someone could be 2-4 gallons off, +/-.

A few pounds here and there, add up.

My 87 vert with full tank no weight reduction weighed in at 3450

1991 LX 5.0 5-spd hatch w/sunroof totally stock full interior 3/4 tank of gas: 3,180

88 lx,converted to carb from fuel injection but all the wiring still in tact.1/4-1/2 tank,no spare or jack,96 cobra front and rear leather seats,97 gt 17" rims and pretty much stock everything else with a sub box in the back and full interior. 3000lbs even without driver.

my 96 weighed in at 3380 with mods in my sig and no spare or jack but a sub box i believe and no front bumper support,my 96 is a fat pig even with weight reduction haha

93 coupe

i have a 93 coupe no ac, power windows and locks. i had a t 76 turbo blowing in to a carb no inter cooler c-4 tranny. im 240 and it was 2640 with me in it

90 Coupe w/me in it(180lbs ),carbd,full interior,gutted trunk(no plastic or carpet) w/spare,17'' bullets,no sound deadner and 3/4 of a tank of gas=3184lbs

I gotta say that's a little hard to believe...you're saying your car only weighs 2400lbs without a driver? Is it just a bare metal shell?


Not saying you're lying but damn, that's ligher than a 289 equipped Shelby Cobra, and they were among the lightest V8 cars ever made. I would think you would need a gutted interior and lexan windows to get it down that low.
