Since I have HyperXX pistons, I was wondering how many are actually running boost with that. Considering I have a little higher compression than stock (I am 10:1) would it be dumb to run a supercharger with a GOOD TUNE?

I guess I would have to retard the timing. Ok. So would that kill the low end?

Reason I ask is that I am looking for the best power adder. I have tried Nitrous now and looking for something different. Thanks!

Its all in the tune.. Keep it fat, keep the timing down.. You should not lose any low end..

kenne bell, broken ring, refinanced my house, no stock bottom end any more

might have been the tune, but usually that would be a blown hg, not a broken ring

my kb is a great power adder, and the price is right!

Thanks for the posts so far guys. I am taking it all in. Bvert, I think that KB is too big for your engine and should be put on a larger engine..especially with all the miles you had on it. Also, correct me if I am wrong but I don't think forged pistons would have helped a ring issue.

On the rods..I have read that the block will go b4 the rods. I do have arp rod bolts though.

the block will go before anything else internal assuming the condition of the engine is good an the tune is right. i say go for it and keep the tune very conservative.

not trying to start an argument but the stock pistons are a whole bunch of crap, they will go just as fast as the block.

with that compression you have now, i would be very careful about how much boost i put into it. also, i would look into a procharger rather than a vortech for the intercooler. just don't cheap out when it comes to the tune if you do go supercharged.

I don't know about it being too big. There are guys on this forum running 2.2L KBs and they are fine. I think my motor was just too worn to be up to the extra stress from a KB.

I also doubt that forged pistons would have helped.

i'm not interested in arguing either. you can say and think what you want, but i'm going to believe what seasoned engine builders say before i believe you. if they say the hyper pistons are not as bad as people like you say they are, i believe them.

they say to use forged for nitrous and boost, but hyper are fine for n/a.

Thanks guys, good discussion. So y'all think that if the tune is there I will be good. Also add an intercooler?

Ok, so here is another question..those of you who are using the stock block for a 331/347 set up with a power adder... Isn't that pushing the limits of the block even more? or is there something about 331/347 that makes the block tougher? Thanks.

yes...and it's not usually advisable without an excellent tune and low boost. pro side is you end up with better internals...con is that you still have the same block

WOW!! and 484rwhp!! Man that car must rock. I have never been in a car with that much power. AND on stock internals leaves hope for the rest of us.

Piston rings on #5 and #8 will go before anything in the block. I ran 12psi on the stock block for awhile until the #8 ring came apart.

Wow, I never tough it would be physically possible for the stock as a rock block to handle a S/C

Hmm..so how do you keep rings from going? A dart block is not going to help with that.
