Just like it says, anyone else run their car like this?

I read about this on the corral a long time ago an decided to give it a try due to deleting my EGR valve i was getting a real slight hesitation at part throttle in my car almost like a bucking but it wasn't (don't ask me how i forget but it had to do with the EGR not being there anymore). I gave this a try an it fixed the problem instead of putting my spout connector back in i just run the car with total timing. So instead of having my timing at 18*w/spout i have it at 32*w/o the spout now. Runs awesome too, got rid of that hesitation. So far i ran it the last part of the summer with no problems an sprayed it a few times also.

um....i did this and my car ran like ****....it was raining out right, I laid into it and I couldny even break the tires loose at all! the car ran like a dog, had no power at all. Reason I took it out is i checked the timing and forogt to put it back in and left it lay and forogot, went back and found it and put it in asap!

What do you run it at on bottle? I'm about to do the same and i'm trying to figure out what 10* base is converted over to total timing, b/c I have a timing control so i'll just adjust as necessary.

Blown stang, he's talking about putting it at 32*, not 10*

That's weird everyone i've talked to about this that has tried it their cars didn't run like crap. But you was just checking your timing, when you put the spout connector back in you realize the computer adds about 12-15* of timing right?? So if you take the spout out an set the timing at say 26* it prolly wouldn't run like crap. Maybe so i dunno.

E90-
When i was running it on the bottle i think i had the timing set pretty conservative about 22* that's alittle much for 100shot i know, but i wasn't able to really mess with it before the cold weather hit. When warm weather comes back around i'm going to try the timing at about 25 or 26* cause i can run about 32-33* N/A with no troubles.

very common to do it on N/A SN pushrod motors (they have a tendancy to see detonation) or blown foxes. other N/A do it too.
i would rather have it work as it should, but i also know to run what works.

happy turkey day.

my car ran like ass without it too, popping, misfiring, etc. I had just gotten it back from the smog guy, and he forgot to put it back in. I certainly wouldn't suggest running without it, that's my experience anyhow.

Guys you realize what i'm talking about? When you and blownstang had your spout connectors out you was only about prolly what 12-14*. I'm talking about running 32* with the spout out an when your running at 12-14* with the spout connector out that would be like running 2-4* with the spout connector in the car. Does that make sense? Maybe i worded it wrong lol.

No, I know exactly what you're doing. You're going ahead and advancing the timing much higher for inital timing and eliminating the advance via the computer. So basically no matter what you are doing, your car is running at 32 degrees timing period all the time. I think some are not realizing this simple fact. When you leave it at 10 degrees with the spout out, then really get hard on the accelerator, yeah it will run like crap - YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH TIMING ADVANCE! So by moving the timing higher in the tables and setting it there, where the computer would max the timing to it's potential under load or WOT, the car is already there no matter what. It really isn't like running at 2-4 degrees though. When they say initial timing, this is the reference which the computer adds timing advance on top of. So say if at normal idle the computer advances 12 degrees, if your initial is 10 (stock), then you arrive at 22 degrees advance. Without the spout in, you eliminate the computer altogether - which means no matter what you are doing, your car runs at 10 degrees timing.

i got it too; it is referred to as locked-out timing. if one has the EGR hooked up (for one) that can toss some variables into the mix that i would not want to mess with (with locked out timing). one really needs the puter accomodating the EGR load.

AHHH yes you got it, i wasn't sure how to explain it. I knew what i was talking about but i couldn't put it into words lol. I was just trying to put it into terms alittle more simple saying the 2-4* thing but it came out wrong an got complicated

did you see a big loss of fuel economy when you set the timing to 32 with the spout out all the time?
Seems like you would. The computer ussually runs lots of timing at light loads.

Honestly i can't tell you, my car gets such crappy gas mileage to being with an being a summer weekend car i don't pay attention .

here's a thread from the corral a few months ago about this:
http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=551667&highlight=spout+connector

There is alot of ppl. that will say not to do this an there are alot that say to do it, but over all if you've still got your emissions equipment an everything hooked up on the car i would say not to mess with it unless your at the track or something. The computer uses alot that stuff to add an subtract timing when under load an at idle etc. etc. But i have yet to read anything bad about doing this though an there's seems to be alot of ppl. that run their cars without the spout.
