WHO MAKES THESE AND BETTER WAY TO GET THEM OFF?

OKAY, I JUST WANTED TO KNOW WHO MADE THESE HEADER BOLTS AND WHAT THE WHOLE IDEA BEHIND THEM IS. I HAVE A PRETTY GOOD IDEA BUT WANT OTHER'S OPINIONS TOO.

THE OTHER PROBLEM THAT I AM FACING IS GETTING THESE 12 SIDED (?) HEADER BOLTS OUT OF A TIGHT SPOT. I GROUND DOWN A 10MM AND THAT GOT MOST OF THEM OUT BUT IT WON'T FIT ON ABOUT 3 OF THEM. IS THERE AN OPEN END WRENCH OUT THERE THAT CAN TAKE THIS TYPE OF HEADER BOLT OUT? I GUESS I COULD FIND ANOTHER 10MM LIKE THIS ONE AND JUST CUT OUT ENOUGH TO GET ON THE OPEN SIDE OF THE HEADER BOLT AND GET A SMALL TURN OUT OF IT.

Have you tried soaking them in WD-40? I would just buy another 10mm... sears always guarantees there tools.

From your picture, it looks like you have header studs and are trying to remove the nuts. The closed end of most combo wrenches will be the style that you require. The idea behind the studs (if this is what you have) is that they make the installation of the exhaust manifold and gaskets easier. You just slide them on and tighten them down, instead of screwing with lining up end bolts first, etc. What nuts are you having trouble with? (Okay, go ahead and make fun of that sentence)

yeah, any 12 point wrench will get those as long as you can get clearance. I know exactly what you're saying, there's just not enough room around the nut to get a closed end wrench on it, and the open end won't grab a 12 point nut.

Just get some cheap 12 point sockets and get creative with a grinder. You're going to have to keep it closed ended because if you cut it so it's like a "C" there won't be enough grab to break 'em loose, you're more likely to break a knuckle when it slips instead.

I just took the carb off my 88 ranger and I had to destroy a cheap wrench just to get at the same kind of nuts.

From the picture I think that they might be Breslin Split locks. They work great if you have a header bolt that keeps backing out but they are a pain to get in and out.
