Who's going to the Nurburgring tomorrow?

I'd say it's partially for safety and partially so they can charge you by the lap. I've only ever seen this track on Gran Turismo, but for what that's worth i know you need some serious brakes to come down from a top speed run after that straight or you'd kill yourself in real life.
Yeah, you could really fly on that thing. I've got Brembo rotors, and Hawk street pads on it now, with a set of Hawk race pads waiting to go on when I get more serious. Even the street setup is pretty sporty. I noticed only a little fade, and they were still hauling me down really quickly.
No, bro. The army did everything for me. I dropped it off where they told me to, and a month and a half later, I picked it up down the road from where I work. They did a great job too. It needed a wash, but I didn't find any new additions to the paint job.
This is sweet, you deserve it man, enjoy it as much as you can cause thats like once in a lifetime stuff right there... 1 hour from the Nurburgring... I feel lucky that i have a place i can go full throttle for .250 miles at a time within an hour and a half from me.

The autobahn is awesome! It's amazing what you can do here that everyone back in the states would have an absolute 
-fit over. I've pegged out the car at 176 mph, according to the speedo, which seems to be really close to GPS.
So far, I haven't had anyone run away from me on the top end like I expected. Though there are plenty of cars here that could do it. The Germans are better drivers. While you'll still get bone-heads that will pull out in front of you into the fast lane, and some guys linger for a little too long in the left lane, but that's a whole different ball-park than the douchers in the states that will camp out in the left lane and absolutely will not get over for anything. Germans will not hang out there, and they're pissed at you if you try to pass on the right.
The only difference between the vettes here and the US spec vettes is that over here they come with a transmission cooler that lets you run flat out for hours, whereas the US spec cars *shouldn't*. It's a trip to pass an army MP or Polizei going 50-60 mph faster than they are going.
The only negative about th autobahn is how bad the traffic jams (called stau here) can be. There aren't typically exits as often as the interstates, and you can be stuck in one for an hour +. All-in-all, I'm really going to miss the driving opportunities here.

I'm definitely jealous! I did 3 laps there in a 75hp Fiat Punto in the pouring rain... man was that terrifying hahaha! My best was probably in the high 12-minute range though.
