Most s-197 owners are modding their cars strictly so the new Camaro doesn't blow it's doors off. I assume the z28 will have a 6 litre LS2? which is their 400 hp engine. 100 more hp than our s-197. The s-197 is obviously capable of going 400hp and beyond with mods. So who all on here is doing it to blow the doors off the new Slowmaro.

GM guys will be lucky if the Camaro actually makes it to full production, I'm actually surprised GM isn't bankrupt it can barely pay its debts let alone its expenses. excellent post!There seems to be a lot of illogical bitterness and angst concerning the new Camaro from certain quarters. I've never really understood it. Maybe it was years of being blown into the weeds by LT1 and LS1 Camaros past, maybe it's cubic capacity envy, maybe it's a simmering resentment that it took Ford too long to come up with a faster car until GM had announced the retirement of the Camaro. Just because it sold better doesn't mean it was a better car, just a more commercial one.
This internecine conflict seems a bit pointless unless you're maybe 12. I love the new Camaro. Nobody knows what it will weigh so why speculate? What is clear is that they are indexing it directly against the Mustang in development tests so are clearly pitching it at the Mustang and I doubt they'll be handicapping it with a significant weight penalty. People also equate weight with sloth or hampered ability but cars like the Murcielago and Astons weigh more than the Mustang but, er, so what?
What we do know is that GM have a great choice of V8 engines. In the past they haven't liked to put the Camaro in direct conflict with the Vette but who knows, this time they may just gun for the Mustang and Shelby with a coup d'etat of monstrous proportion. They have the Corvette's 425hp LS3 and they've got the forthcoming blown LS9 with 620hp which they've got no excuse not to use given the advent of the GT500KR. Of course, that would be lighter than the GT500 because it uses an alloy engine...
The Challenger was always going to be heavy as it was a cost-driven car based on the 300. The Hemi tries to offset that disadvantage but it's all they've got.
So I welcome the Camaro. If it does nothing else, it will sting Ford into producing better and faster Mustangs. If it has IRS, it will push Ford to develop one. It's the beauty of not having the market all to yourself, everyone benefits by competition.
Am I gearing up for it. No. If they produce a 425hp LS3 Camaro, I'm sure they could add a supercharger just like I did...
