Im getting very bad gas mileage lately, my car is 2001 and has only 23000miles and only get 170miles for a fill up on an empty tank.
what could be causing this, I dont think its the plugs, could it be the air filter I know the 4.10's dont help but it shouldnt be this bad

i'm getting the same crappy mileage as you. I just bought a certified pre-owned 2001 Mustang GT Convertible and I did notice the same thing too. Though when I landed on the half way mark on my gas meter, I had driven 128 miles and then I divided it by 7.5 (half of 15 gal tank), and it reads 17mpg. Then again, as I approach near the end mark, I do notice that I'm only at like around 170 miles. As far as my car is concerned, I have no mods except flowmaster 40's, and a K&N air filter which both supposedly gives more mileage. :nice:

Bad O2 sensors (car might be running rich) Do a complete tuneup and see if it improves. And lastly, don't drive like a maniac. Is it mostly highway or mix or mostly city? If it's all city I can see possibly getting that much mileage, but not likely.

As stated above, it takes a lightening of the right foot to nail decent gas mileage with this car. I mean, you dont have to baby it, but dont expect 300 miles per tank for city driving...it aint happenin. I have changed my driving habits lately, for example, not rev matching the downshifts to stop lights, now I just throw it in neutral and coast. That has helped tremendously I know. I also dont drive it like a bat out of hell anymore all the time. I dont baby it by any means, but only occasionally really romp on it. I get about 210 miles to the tank driving like this, with 12 gallons which is all I put in it at the pump. That works out to about 17 mpg. You have to remember that this is a sports car, not an economy car. You just have to deal with it.

I get around 280 miles to the tank, and I have an auto. Manuals do a bit better. When I had a 98 cobra I was getting 300 or so. Granted it's mostly highway driving. I have a light foot as you can tell..

Man, I must be lucky. I get around 280 to 320 every tank. I usually get more towards the 300 mark.

Sounds like you guys need a tune or something!

Thats what I get too but it hit the low fuel light at about 270-275.... lol I dont like to run it down that low too much though.

Check my mods - I just made a leisurely trip North and averaged 24.3 MPG with an average top speed of 75 mph. This was from fill-up to fill-up, the only way to check it accurately. My left rear caliper was hung up a little bit on this trip too, now that I've fixed that I'm confident it would be better.

The one thing that stands out in your sig is the MAC Cold Air kit - didya' perform the DarkWolf mod? If not, this can certainly cause your car to run rich, which I'm sure could also affect your mileage. Search it on the forum, you'll find all you need to know.

i've got flows and 4.10s, and i fill up every other day. then again, i never let it go past 1/4...but i don't keep track of how many miles i get because i simply don't care. sometimes it pisses me off that i have to constantly put 12-18 bucks in, but... then i realize i own a mustang gt and thats the end of it. haha all those ricers can get as much mpg as they want, but i'll hang with the horsepower boys...that could just be me.
