WHY ARE MY TOOLS ALWAYS MISSING?

I never found my pair of needle nose pliers that I lost 11 years ago. Those damn things sprouted legs and walked away. I've been fortunate that I've never lost anything else. I've gotten into the habit of putting them back into the drawer as soon as I finish using them, so I don't lose them. It's always the tool you need at that very moment that disappears.

Happens everytime. Hopefully not this weekend. Got a quick brake job to do. Of course, it won't be quick if something comes up missing.

Where do you buy the foam that you can make cutouts for your tools? Or does anyone have a good place to get drawer organizers??

I snagged a big roll of 1 1/2" foam from work but have never been able to find it anywhere on the open market. I'd love to know as well!

I made my foam pieces when I was working at the garage. I used flat squares that parts came packed in. You might find something at a craft store or fabric store that would do the trick. The drawer with the combination wrenches looks especially neat, and you can play a tune on them like a xylophone, lol.

Finding the tools when everything is said and done isnt the problem, its trying to find what you want in the heat of battle is the fustrating part. The friggn thing is right in front of you and you cant see it.

Now I know better when I drop something in the engine bay of a Mustang and it doesnt fall to the ground, its in the tool K-member of course.

This happens to my dad ALL the time except when he's missing a certain tool that I have NEVER touched or seen before he RIGHT away blames me saying that "I" used it last even though it was his fault the WHOLE time then later finds it and chuckles about it. If I tell him I didnt use it or havent used that tool he right away asks if I've had any friends over and if they were in the garage at all. Thats why I only work on the stang when he's home so he doesnt go blaming me or my friends for the missing tool(s), so right after I'm done I put the tools away exactly the way he had them before.

Try being an aircraft mechanic for 11 years. You will get to be a fanatic about keeping track of everything. Tools left inside airplanes have a way of causing problems that are potentially dangerous to other people and to your livelihood.

This is what we use in the Aircraft Industry, I talked with the Guy in the Parts Grib a few years back and he gave me the info on the Company we get the stuff from, I got 2 - 48" x 48" x 3/4" Sheets and it was plenty for my Tool Chest.
