if i went and got an hci and lost my bottom end i think gas milage would severly suffer and since i drive 40+ miles a day that can't be good. sure it would be better for the track but i guess during these debate we probably should specify what the car is for

Nope. Gas mileage will barely be effected unless your doggin the car non stop. Thats part of the beauty of EFI. Now, a poor running h/c/i car can lose gas mileage though if the eec isnt doing its job.

Throw that velocity theory in the garbage where it belongs. Put a 'big' head on your 302/306 car (an afr 185 for example) cam it right so it makes power where YOU want it and your done. The cam is the brains of the operation.

Snoozer your point is very valid....but idk about you but when i drive around town a rarley shift above 3k but i enjoy the low end torque while doing that....its on thing at the track where yes, your car is below 4k MAYBE when you first launch(street tires) and then slowing down.....your point makes perfect sense

I never shift above 3k... and only go to 3k in 1st cause the 3.73s

i think people dont understand the difference that the rpm and big heads make. they think its some big deal and the car is a dog. I barely noticed it myself.

lack of lowend on street tires will alow you to leave higher and get out of the hole with traction.

on slicks i just grip it and rip it

is that your dd or do you have a beater car snoozer?

btw, unless i'm trying to pass or just drive faster, i usually stay below 2500 maybe even 2300

um this is my ONLY car. i am a college student and commmute 80-200 miles a day i get 25 mph highway and 21-22 with mixed driving

I'll tell you what costs you gas.... a heavy car. not the heads. a well tuned car wil get excellent gas mileage.

you are only using a few hp to maintain your speeds while cruising.... tweecer guys... what is your throttle percentage at highway speeds... shed some light for this gentleman

With little exception, the more horsepower you have the less gas mileage you will get. An engine is most fuel efficient near full throttle right where peak torque occurs. This is why a Geo Metro can get 50 mpg -- he has to use 75% throttle just go maintain freeway speed. So on a high horsepower car, where you barely crack open the throttle to maintain cruising speed, gas mileage suffers. There are some exceptions to this rule, using newer technology that does not exist on a 5.0.

or running a very lean part throttle table

your comment has barely any baring in the difference between a car making 100 and 120 hp at 2500 rpm

I have this to say.

I could give a rats ass about lowend. the only time my car sees below 4000 is after i am breaking at the end of the track.

some of you guys need to do less worrying and internet racing and whining about losing bottomend, and go race!

I do what i have got to do to win and thats where my car is where it is today.

if i listened to half the people on the forums and didnt follow my own path i dont know where i would be.

why do you really need all this low end? so your car FEELS fast when you are daily driving? wouldnt you rather own people in a race than FEEL fast?

maybe you wouldnt but i would.

Finally! A man with vision!

Most people are scared to put the right cam, gear, and TB on their car. My car made a pathetic 315 rwtq where others with similiar HP make 340+ and I didn't make much power @ 3K compared to many others out there. However, I'd bet that in a race starting 2 ~15-20 MPH in second gear none of those cars would have pulled away from me.
