Why did this happen to my Upper manifold gasket??? *PICS*

well these are some pics of what the gasket looked like when i pulled the upper to install 2 injectors that werent firing... the wet spot smells like fuel, do the ports look normal?? all the vaccume lines are tight with hose clamps holding them what would cause this?? the only bolt holding the upper to lower that was loose was the rear one on the drivers side...would that have caused this to happen, these pics were taken after 300 miles of break in driving.

you sure they weren't stuck open instead of not firing? Looks like some reversion going on... which is normal to some point. If those ports are drowning in fuel I can see that happening. Either that or possibly leaking intake valves...

wouldn't a leaking fuel pressure regulator do that too

Mine looked like that from the first time I put the new engine in. Mine looked more like oil though. I replaced the gaskets, but the spacer is still soaked in.

I think my engine is still building up pressure in it. I may try valve cover filter on the valve cover instead of the factory setup with the vent in the filler tube going back to the intake route.

That looks a lot like mine, and my problem is the PCV valve spitting oil into the upper by way of the vac. lines. Then it gets sucked down the ports closest to the PCV and stains the phenolic spacer, gaskets, and both halves of the manifold. Do you have an oil seperator on your PCV? That's supposed to help, but I haven't tried it yet.

try putting an air/oil seperator inline from the PCV to the intake on that vac line

I wouldn't worry about it

Looks like a small amount of oil mist has discolored the gasket

It looks like it was sealing and that is the main thing

Go to Home depot/lowes.

Go to compressor section.

they make a smll one for like $10. Get some pipe nipples and some vac line and you are golden.

I bought the largest one they have for my Lightning so I wouldnt have to clean that damn intercooler any more.

i did the same exact thing. it looks just like the one steeda sells for $70

It's an oil issue... I don't think its gas. Look to the PCV as others have said.

Stock TFS gaskets are known to have problems. I went with after market units when I did my install after doing some research.
