The valve cover bolts were lose and leaking so I tightened them. The drain plug leaks a litle. And I noticed the back of the pan is wet from oil.But it cant be leaking alot because I dont see any puddles. I never retorqued my intake. Can I be losing that much through the intake? (I use Mobile 1)

Can't really answer your question since I can't see the engine....should you retorque the intake? Absolutely, is that the answer? Don't know. Another possibility is the enigne is a bit worn and blowby is another contributing factor in the oil loss. I know with my old mill (200,000) I was consuming a good qty of oil but never realized how bad she laid down a smoke trail untill I followed as a buddy drove the car. The oil isn't evaporating so you need to figure out where it's goin by spending a little time lookin under the hood.

It does smoke when I punch it out.But it only has 140,000 on it.

an engine can last 500,000 or 5000 it's not the miles, it's the maintenance among several other varialbes that determine the life of an engine. If your blowing the blues on the throttle and using significant oil then I would start looking at a rebuild of the mill in the near future, or simply tollerate the smoke and keep her full untill times up...either way it's your decision and neither is wrong IMO.

No blue smoke and the heads have about 50-60,000 miles on them (Thumper heads) The tailpipes are blackl. The last time the intake was off there was oil grtting into the ports of the heads! Regular oil changes.I have records from the old man who owned it before me.He changed it every 1000 miles!!

well hopefully you have your intake problem fixed but ive never retorqued an intake on my car and ive never had one leak. this might be a pita to do but to figure out where your leaks are coming from take some degreaser and clean the entire motor and trans. wash it off really good and spray it down with brake clean. now drive it around for a few days and than look again. leaks should show up pretty good.
