Why was this cut?

I've run into a gremlin the last few days. It started at full throttle the car would hit a wall at 4,500 rpm and felt just like a rev limiter. It would stall, then start right back up and run fine.

Yesterday it killed 2 batteries within 20 miles of driving. I changed the starter as it was drawing and also the ground strap where it burned to the header.

Today I was tracing the other ground wires and found this. The previous owner cut through both white wrapped wires going into the power distribution box. One is green, the other is the black/orange wire going to the alternator post.

I replaced the alternator due to a bad diode when I bought the car. Would he have cut it to stop it from blowing the 20 amp maxi fuse?

Problem solved. It was the main power coming out of the distribution box to the alternator. Someone cut it while it was in the garage with the hood up. Pretty ballsy, hope I find out who it was.
