Will a t-56 give me a higher highway gear?

basically, if anyone knows. What are the 1st gear and the 6 gear ratios on the T-56 compared to the T-5. The reason i ask is because my firend with his 97' camaro, 6speed basically really doesnt even use 6th gear cause its so high, and only on long highway trips, its a good canadate for gears, is the tranny in a stang similar or do those fbodys just come with high gears? anyhow. Could i possibly get away with more rear gear on the highway, or cruse at a lower rpm? how about launching in 1st? dam i drove it and it shifts really really nice. also, as im looking into trannys, what are some costs, like for a complete kit, nuts and bolts to make a T-56 or a Tremic 500 Fit our cars, what have you guys found?

You can also get a closer gear ratio "viper t56:"

2.66/1.78/1.30/1.00/.74/.50

I was never a huge fan of the 6spd tranny.. But now that i have one in my 03, i absolutely love it. If you can afford the 6spd swap, go for it! You will love it on the highway.

The T-5 has a better interface, IMO. The shift pattern on the T-56 is very, very narrow, and even with a good aftermarket shifter I find myself occasionally having to hunt a little to get the gear I want. It has a slightly taller top gear, which helps a little on the freeway, and it's a whole bunch stronger than the T-5. But it's noisy. This may be an attribute common with the stronger trannies however (TKO comes to mind).

So what I'm saying is that if a TKO has a shift pattern that is similar to the T-5, I would much rather have that over a T-56. Now that I own one .

Yep, you are going to need to get the "viper spec" transmission to get noticeable change in highway rpm's.

So unless you get the viper spec t-56, there is no point in getting the t-56 at all. Might as well get the TKO.

Can you get a smaller gear for 5th on the TKO's? Any options???? That would be cool!

with what you showed me , the 6th-5th gear numbers seem really close....does that really translate into a higher 5th? what does the camaros come with? that has a high 6th.

I agree about the shifting. I feel that the t5 was ALOT easier to bang gear fast.. I cant shift the new cobra nearly as fast yet.. But i do need time to really get used to it. Mine isnt noisy at all though.

if you get the viper spec t56, your first gear is going to seem obscenely long. A viper can hold first for a loooooong time.
