You need a special scan tool to electronically diagnose ABS problems, you can't read it with an OBDII Code reader.

no it will not.. the preditor will only read the PCM it will not read your other modules

to get ABS, ICM and GEM codes you need a true scan tool.

That's what I thought. Would a place like autozone be able to read those codes? They don't charge, where as the ford dealer wanted 100.00 for diag. Right now the ABS light is off. It came on yesterday for a short ride to home depot. Then when I left work it was off and didn't come on for the 90 min. ride home. It came on again when I stopped at walmart. I noticed the brake fluid was below the max line, so I filled it up. So far on the way to work it did not come on.

I'm guessing that it will not show any codes if the light is off right?

check with MATCO, MAC, or Snap-On. you are looking for a minimum of $1500-$7000 for a decent scan tool. a good scan tool is gonna cost you closer to $10,000.

generic OBDII codes are for emissions purposes only

you'll need a ford scan tool to read all DTC's, in other words take it to a ford dealer


low fluid will throw an ABS code though and cause the light to come on. fluid needs to be at the correct level for ABS to function properly

your better off just taking it to the dealer... the 100.00 includes one hours worth of diag so your not just getting a uneducated guess.. diag gets a lot more involved at times then just reading codes, and those autozone guys can cost you money when they start guessing.

could've just been your low fluid, do a couple of hard brakes on the highway and see if the light trips

I think it was just the fluid... The light only came on and went off in 2 seconds after filling up to the max line. It has not come on at all in the last 4 days. I'm going have the fluid replaced soon, but if it comes on again I'll take it to the dealer.

It's either low fluid, one of the sensors, or air in the system. At least that's what I assumed with my truck. I bled the system, checked the fluid, and ultimately ended up replacing a $10.00 sensor. Morale of the story (since it's not a Mustang) is that you should troubleshoot the previously mentioned things if you have time ... before you go pay $100. HOWEVER, if you don't know how to bleed brakes well, you should not try to do this step because if air gets into the ABS system you will have a helluva problem that will require the 'special tool' Ford has.

When your ABS light is on you still have brakes. My Mustang does not have ABS and I personally am glad ......
