Will Something Break???

well I was thinking about getting some sticky tires for the track....but I'm beginning to worry that with more traction something's bound to go....my last dyno was @ 335 rwhp, but that was when I was running 6psi...since then I've bumped that upto ~9-10psi with the addition of a boost pipe and grippier/smaller pulley...the car definately pulls a lot harder now but I have no traction

Any opinions on the subject???...I really want to get better times at the track, but don't want to fork out the money on new rubber if it's going to cause me to lose my clutch or rearend (or both)

The stock clutch and axles/diff are bound to go with 360+ WHP. However, you can reduce the chance of them breaking by taking precaution as mentioned above. Don't dump the clutch, and keep your revs around 4,000 or lower. Before you hit the track MAKE SURE you have enough back up money for a new rear end or clutch. It's just insurance. Also have a AAA card ready or tow truck available.

Some people make 300+ runs on the stock rear end on DR's. Some blow it on the first run. Your just rollin' the dice. But I want to give my rear end HELL before they break:nice: . My moto is "don't dick with it if it isn't broken!"

Just go easy on the launches, and it should hold for a while.

Anytime you add power and traction you increase the lchance of a failure.

You need to figure out how fast you want to go, how much breakage are you willing to accept and if you want to spend the extra cash to sure up the driveline..

the way i look at it is it's a big time waste of money to supercharge your car just to make it run slower or near what it ran N/A due to bad traction... BUT when you hook the stock clutch and the stock 28 spline axles and the unwelded axle tubes and tourqe boxes take a beating.

So are you willing to spend the money to fix what breaks, and are you willing to spend the money to upgrade as needed.

Not trying to say it won't break.. but.. I've got a friend with an '03 Cobra vert running 15x10's with slicks in the rear and skinnies up front on a stock GT rearend with 4.10's.. He's putting down about 460rwhp and he dumps it off the line every time. He's been like that for 2 years on stock axles/differential... And another buddy who used a stock 8.8 in his drag cars for 5 years without any breakage. He only upgraded to a 35-spline due to the 438ci windsor and powerglide, since he would be making ~800rwhp and launching at 5500rpm.

Just a bit to think about.. But still, you never know how well your rearend will hold up at the track

Just don't use DR's and trackbite at the same time :rlaugh:
