Window motor installation help

I had to get a new window motor for my 94 gt passenger door. The problem is, I cannot get the motor all the way in, it like goes half way or something,what is the proper way to put it in,has anybody had to do this,it looks so easy but i just cant get it all the way in,i can even up and put in the top and right screw but i cant get the bottom one in. It looks like the "teeth" on the motor and the teeth on the door won't line up.

been there, it's just the install and nothing about what to do if it dosen't "just go back in, and reverse steps" Thanks though.....Mike

was your window down while you were installing the new motor? mine is up, but I can lower it with a screwdriver, should I get it all the way down? I lowered it a little to see if it would help. maybe I need it all the way down

nope, it was all the way up. try adjusting it with your screwdriver.

What brand and what's the part number?

Try hooking up the motor, and using the switch to bump it until the gears mesh. This worked for me, because when i bought my GT, both motors were stripped out, and I rebuilt them with 1/4 inch nuts to replace the stripped out parts inside the motor.

OK I put the motor in. It seems like it is not fully inits place but I got all 3 bolts in. Now I lowered the window and when it reached the bottom the window tried to keep going down. It made some loud banging noise when it reached the bottom. Also it made another "bang" when I was raising the window and it got half-way up. It went up and down but not smoothly. Anybody experience this?

both of my windows did this as they were tearing up. It may not be the same, but you never know. There's little plastic bits inside window motors that are designed to break in the event someone's head is in the window. These motors put out quite a bit of torque, and they're there for safety. Now, it sounds as if they're breaking. It starts out as random bangs, and then it starts shredding these 3 pieces of plastic. As they shred the window will sometimes go up, with help, and go down, with help, it just get's worse. You may be experiencing this, however, you said you got new motors, but were they from another car, or actually new. Take out the motor, remove the cover that is on the side where the gear comes out, and inspect them. Let me know, and if there is a lot of plastic in there, i'll tell you how to fix it.

I was looking at an old thread and I found someone with the same(well almost) problem as me.

Uh... I found the problem... the stop fell off the window.

The actual STOP was laying in the bottom of the door.

How in the hell are you supposed to reattach this thing?

I found a triangular piece of plastic on the bottom of my door. I have a feeling that it is probably the "stop". I will try and find out where it goes and put it back in. Hopefully it will make my window stop and not actually try to keep going down once it reaches the bottom of my door. After that I will try to find out why it makes that "banging" noise and why it studders once the window is halfway down the door. If all else fails I will take the new motor out of door again and open it up to see if the plastic is broken already like Wayne said.
