okay here is the deal, one day a while ago i was getting in and out of my car alot that day and rolling the window up and down. then one time i did it and it make a loud banging noise and went up, i think it worked a few more times after that but something quit. here is my dilema the motor still works. and you can hear it.. ive seen it moving when i took the inside panel off. what could it be guys? the glass is still on the hangers and i can feel anything loose.. the motor DOES move when i click teh button the window just dosnt.. when i say i can see it move i put a mirror in my hand and stuck my hand as far back as i could and pointed the mirror toward the motor..i could see the little gear thingy moving inside the motor through the little opening that is there... any ideas? btw what is that little blue box like on the door panel thing that is connected to the main door by a wire harness. i noticed if i unhook it the motor stops.. could that be fualty? thanks again guys.

p.s: 98 mustang gt... drivers side door.

If the motor is running and the gear is spinning it sounds like you might have a stripped gear on your regulator. I just did mine 2 days ago...got the regulator/motor assembly for $130 (jobber price). My dealer only stocked 5 of them, so it must be a problem...

If you're hearing clicking coming from the dash when you press the switch that means that the switch is doing it's job and so is the relay (the click is it sending the signal to the window motor, telling it to do it's thing). If you've got all this going on and still no uppie-downie, then either your regulator is bound up or the motor is bad. The regulator isn't much more than just the motor and it comes with it...

OOHH I misread the post.

your regulator is probally fine, I whought you said the clitcking was coming from the door.

most liekly the motor went out on you. tap it with a hammer and see if you can move it then.

ok LOL now I got this straight, there is two topics going on about window motors and I am getting them confused.

Ok after reading this a THRID time, I see you mean you can hear the motor turn but the window don't move.

Ok then what you need to do is unbolt the motor from the regulator and see if the gear driven part of the motor broke free, or if the regulator part broke free.

you may have to enlarge some dimpled holes in the door panel to access the bolts that hold the motor to the regulator. It's been a LONG time since I have done a mustang window motor I forget if the holes are there or if it's dimples like a lot of fords.

its not hard. i did it three days ago cuz my window simply got stuck in the down position. Take the pin out of the door panel up by the hinge, at just has clips on the backside, so just wiggle it up gently. You can then unbolt the window motor (3 bolts) and you can slide your hand in the door and pull it out to inspect it. Hook up the motor to a drill battery and see what happens.
