To open the thread off let me just say that this is my 1st post on stangnet! Glad to be apart of the community.

I just recently bought a 2003 Black Mustang GT. Already very proud of stang. I need to get window tint sometime this week or next. What percentage should I get. I really dont want to get a ticket from the county's finest but I really want the privacy and with black leather I want it to protect my interior. What's my best route in doing this. From what I have heard 15% - 20% might be my best bet. Thoughts?

I dont really know the tint of my gt saleen but with mine being a white car the dark tint is awesome. The tint is just enough to put your license to the window and be able to read the license with the law in TN. So go as dark as you can to where you can read your license through it or you could just be a rebel and go with 5 percent limo tint LOL!. id say 10 to 15 would be perfect and look excellent with your black gt. Welcome to stangnet!

I've been thinking about this a lot too, since I have a black '03 GT also. My interior is gray, though. Legal limit here in IL is 35%, but I've been thinking of going with either 30% or 20%.

Also, welcome.

I've had cars with 5,15,and 20. My opinion is 20 is just dark enough to look good, but you don't have to roll your windows down to back up at night.

I've got 5% on my back 3 windows, and 35% on the front. The 35% actually came out darker then I expected. Made it thru last year without getting pulled over. We will see what happens this year. (Front window tint is teh illegal in MI)

I've always like the windows dark so it makes it harder for people to see in while its parked.. It does make it harder to see out at night though.

I've had 5% all the way around on my 85 and it looked good from the outside but it was not worth it at night. My truck and both my stangs are 20% all the way around and I think it's perfect. Although 35% is max in MD. on front windows.

20% is perfect, in my opinion. Personally, I don't like anything less than that. I think the window then looks like a big black blob that doesn't flow with the rest of the car. With 20%, you still see enough light from the outside to make everything look "right", if you know what I mean.

Also, have you considered tinting the windshield (yes, the entire thing....)? Most people gasp whenever windshield tint is brought up. BUT, I will say that you can see PERFECTLY fine out of 50% on the windshield, day and night. Plus, it keeps the car MUCH cooler in the summer time, less sun glare in the day time, and less headlight glare at night. Just something to think about.

The windshield is nice when it's done illegal but definitely worth it at night it really knocks the glare down from opposing vehicles especially trucks and suvs.

Some of you guys are lucky as hell with the laws... In Virginia it's no more than 35% on the rear, 50% on the front, nothing on the windshield below the AS1 line. You can get a prescription from a doctor for darker though and I think I'm gonna look in to that. My eyes honestly are pretty damn sensitive to light lol.

They will suspend your night driving if you try that. I looked into it when I was there and it was a no go. VA is a commie state. I hope I never live there again.

Is tint a 'fix-it' ticket in Virginia? That's what it is here in NC. If you get it removed within a certain time-frame, they drop the ticket.

I got a tint ticket a few weeks back. I had the tint 'removed', and ticket dropped.

I don't know, I can't think of anyone I've known that's ever gotten a ticket for it. You won't get pulled over for it unless it's crazy dark. You just have to make sure you don't get pulled for anything else.

Knock on wood, I've been pretty lucky with mine so far. I even got pulled over and had someone in the back seat and the cop said, "Hm, I didn't know anyone was back there, your tint is pretty dark." State boy too, he was cool as hell though, we talked about mustangs for a good bit.

It is. I always just paid the ticket. They would inspect the car before they would drop the ticket in my town. I got one or two a year when they would catch the car out.
