My windows in my 90 5.0 suck. The driver side back tilts up when its all the way up then when you close the door with the window open at all the whole door rattles and it sounds terrible. The passenger side window screeches half the way up and also rattles but not as bad as driver side does.

I also have long scratches on my window and they are definetly scratches not like dirt or anything. What parts do i need to replace to get these problems from happening anymore?

My windows do the same thing... been meaning to correct this since I got the car but lately they're gotten REALLY loose and annoying.

So there is nothing at all on the window hardware inside the door that I can adjust or tighten?

My windows are so loose I am sceptical that new bushings and dew wipes will fix the problem entirely. They not only move side to side but also rock back and forth.

How do you replace the window bushings? I couldn't even find them the last time I had the door panel off.

If I remember right, the back and forth is fixed by replacing the window motor gear bushings or the entire gear off the motor. If you take the motor out and take the gear apart, the shaft has a triangular part that used to have three white bushings in them. They are probably totally gone. Hard to explain until you take it apart. You can now get those parts separately. I ended up replacing the whole gear assemblies.

How hard is it to change the window motor gear and the bushings?

I'm gonna start with replacing those first.

I hate to bring back up such an old Thread but I could not let bad advice stay out there and let it give people false sense of having their problem repaired.

The window gear bushings are there to keep a small child or pet from severly injuring themselves. If such a thing should happen the plastic bushings will/would collapse or disentegrate and therefore allow the window to stop raising.

The problem(s) savegoodautonfg is discribing are a mixture of issues going on. The door panel will have to be off to see everything mentioned.

Case in point:

1) Scratches on window is most likely caused by the felt on the window guide (located on the top of the door frame - just in front of the door lock pin) has lost it's felt and/or is too tight against the window.

2) The window rattling back and forth (outside to inside movement) is caused by the fore mentioned guide being too loose. There is a 11mm nut that you can loosen and adjust accordingly.

3) The window having a forward to rearward movement is or can be caused by several different variables. In my research the most common is the window guide bushings. These are the square plastic bushings that go around the round window guide (middle of door & goes from top of door to bottom of door). I have been doing extensive research as to how to replace these bushings and to the best of what I've found you have to remove the two 11mm nuts (one just in front of the window guide mentioned in #1 and the other is on the bottom of the door). You then have to pry the window opening (where window glass comes through) and work the window guide out.

Other variables for the forward/rearward movement could be: broken window guide, broken window regulator (large gear that motor connects to), window just simply off track, or the white plastic door glass channel bracket is broken.

4) The terrible sounds that he's hearing could be a number of issues as well. Could be the felt worn off the #1 window guide, worn out dew wipe, etc...

I just wanted to clear up some advice that was given. I don't claim to be an expert in any sort of the fashion; I just have been doing a lot of reasearch over the past week or so. I've been having some of the same issues that were discribed and have been on here as well as the Corral pouring over countless pages of advice/help. I just knew the advice given was or could lead people to replace items that didn't need replacing. And I for one know that we all don't want to spend money for something that we didn't need to or could have used that money else where.

Good info... I'll have to look into it, as my windows rattle like crazy.

But seriously, only one tech post since joining in 2005?

Yeah, I have been on here for some time but usually only to do research. I spend most of my time on Corral.net as Stang Lover. I actually didn't know that I had ever posted anything on here. I was quite amazed myself.
