resprayed the cowl this weekend and was thinking about doing the trim around the windshield on my 'vert. The top and sides are easy but how do you get the piece off from the bottom of the windshield without breaking the clips?

ok, maybe not worried about breaking the clips so much as breaking the trim pieces. Im not sure how they even connect, never seen one off.

As you can see I snapped mine off but you can see where the clips are in line with the molding

They are really easy to break. Basically there are two small tabs that slide into a metal slots mounted under them at the base of the glass. The metal slots are bent in a way that let the tabs slide in easily, but bite onto them when you try to pull them out. In the pic above, you can see the tabs have been broken off which is what usually happens when anyone tries to remove these trim pieces.

I have made a tool that I slide down under the trim and "push" the tabs out of the metal slots, but to make such a tool, you almost HAVE to see one removed and see what exactly is going on under there and where the tabs are located.

Those trim pieces are shorter on the Capri models than they are on the Mustangs, so Mustang pieces won't work... and since I own 4 Capris, I snag every set I find at junkyards and have gotten pretty good at getting them off without breaking them... thanks to my special tool.

got one of them off with out breaking the tab by using a forked nylon pry tool, jambed that sucker in there and pushed the clip away from the tab. super glue fixed the tab on the other side. Wish i had taken a pic for posterity.

got all the trim off and painted with some trim paint, its not perfect by any means but its much better than what it was.

Capri, ill keep an eye out for any capri headed for the crusher and see if i cant grab a couple of the trim pieces.
