wiring a street "race" car

i was wondering how much of the wiring i can take out of my car and still make it street legal ? i.e. head lights,tail lights,break lights,turn signal. its soon to be a street/track car and ive taking out the heat,air,radio,carpet,rear seats ect, ect and i have alot of extra wires that i think i can take out but not sure any help would be great p.s. if pics would help i could take some tomorrow if it would help just let me know.

Well ya need lights and blinkers for sure, if you drove only during the day you might be able to get away without headlights though?

its also a carb engine so i already have the efi harness out im just wondering about all the wires inside the car

dude dont take all the wiring out, at the most take the wiring out for the cruise and washer tank and the airbags, do go taking the lights out...

if you really wanted to be hardcore take out all the wiring and just rewire the things that you need, but that is really involved and IMHO not worth it. I would do like slow95 suggested and pretty much leave it alone.

im not to good with the wiring thing so ill take ur word for it and just try to hide it with zip ties under the dash. there are so many damn wires thow lol

If your concerned with the way the wiring looks, just get some wire loom and wrap it all up, at least then it will all be enclosed and not dangling around. To take it all out would be pointless and if you ever changed your mind in the future you would regret it lol

I removed all the unneeded wiring in a friends car and rewired a few things. Took time but was nice when finished. A guess would be about 20 lbs of wiring came out. Interior and all panels were removed so it made things easier. If your not comfortable with wires DONT attempt to remove them.

bentley, i've heard wiring is not that hard if you learn all the diagrams and stuff is that true? and i'm wondering how to go about learning wires and relays and such. any help is appreciated

IF you don't have a basic knowledge of circuits and electrical wiring from other things I would be very careful about learning on your car, you don't want it to go up in flames.

The Automotive Online Instruction seems to have the basic stuff. Go through it and then look for more books or online courses using the Google search.

Once you have refreshed your memory, then try a book from the Google list. The ISBN number in every book is a big help. Use the ISBN number and your local public library can get you a loaner copy for free. Only thing is you are limited to keeping the book for two weeks in most cases
