Wondering if TPS voltage is different on speed density cars

I have searched the FAQs, looked in tech and can't find the answer...please don't flame me. I checked my TPS voltage on my 87 5.0/5spd and I have .7V in the idle position with the engine off, it is ONLY 3.6V @ WOT....Now I also own an 88 Lincoln town car with a speed density 302---checked it, and it ALSO has .7V at idle with the engine off and 3.6V at WOT. My question---are the specs different for the earlier speed density cars? I wouldn't think so, but I don't want to spend $40 on a TPS if I don't need to.

You know you can change the voltage by loosening the TPS and moving it around right? You want your voltage with key on engine off to be at least .9 volts, some guys swear by getting as close to .98 volts without going over. But to answer ur question no, speed density and mass air tps voltage doesnt change

As long as your idle voltage is at least .6 volts and not more than 1.1 volts then it's fine. The wide open throttle voltage should be at least 2.71 volts more than the idle voltage. So since you have .7 volts at idle and 3.6 volts at WOT then you're good to go.

The computer baselines to the voltage that the TPS is at everytime the car is started. Ford did this so they could just slap cars together rather than having to check and adjust each and every TPS that they put on an engine. Ford installed millions upon millions of TPS's.

Just about the only thing that Ford had to be adjust on older engines was the timing.

Yes I read all the info on adjusting the TPS....but the highest voltage I could get was .7 base and 3.6 @ WOT. I didn't see the part about WOT being 2.71V over baseline. Everything I saw said somewhere around 4.5V, I took that to mean you needed 4.5 for the computer to read WOT. Thanks for the replies

Nope. You only need .6 volts. Here, listen to this car. It's mine and the TPS reads aeound .80 at idle. Considering all of the work that I've done to it and the fact that I'm using the dreaded MAC MAF, it does and idles exactly like it should.

Your numbers are fine. Disregard everything you know about tps and read the above thread. Should answer everything.

I'm trying to stress to guys to stop breaking out the multimeter to adjust the tps and Just dump the codes. If you don't have a tps code, no need to worry about the tps.
