wont go into gear?! plz help!

Well i have been working on a mustang i bought a while ago, still havent got to drive it! :-(. i got the car and the motor was all messed upi and all. so i pulled that motor out and put in one that I knew was strong running. well i can start the car and every thing, but i go to put it in first and the cluch for some reason isnt getting pushed in enough? it just grinds? what can i do?! is there somethin i can do? its a 5 speed t5 thanks
 
Assuming you have the stock cable and quadrant:

Adjust the quadrant manually by pushing the driver's seat all the way back then lay on your back and look up at the quadrant. you should see something that looks like a "hook" on the quadrant. Press down on the clutch pedal and hold that hook while you pull back up on the pedal. You chould hear clicking as the quadrant adjusts. Now try to start and put it into gear. If this works, your cable is stretched and there's not much you can do about it besides replace it (actually there is but I don't recommend them). You should also note that this method it only temporary and will undo itself if the stock quadrant self adjusts (either by pulling up on the pedal or releasing it fast enough that it snaps to the rear). If you decide to replace the cable then it's a good idea to replace the quadrant as well and be done with it. A firewall adjuster is a great thing too. :)
