won't idle in the morning

I don't understand it. I have just about tried everything that I can think of. In the morning I have to give my car gas to keep it running until it gets warm. I have a 331 stroker w/ Victor Jr. heads, Performer II intake, cold air kit, 24lb. injectors, ect. It just started doing it. I drove about 1,300 to my new home and after I got there the following morning it started the whole idle problem. I must add that after being off of the highway I noticed that the idle would freak out. I would be setting at a light for example and it would just jump up and go right back to normal. It was like the timing was advancing for a split second. What I mean is that if you have ever put your car on a computer test, you will know what I mean, the tester makes the timing jump for a sec. for one of its tests. It's kinda hard to explain. Thing is, it only did it for that one day. It has never surged again, but the idle problem is still there. Please help! :damnit:

is it a lot colder where you live now?

cleaning (or replacing, if the IAC tests out bad) the IAC is a place to start.

also, if you have to hold the gas to keep it running, the IAC and puter think they are doing enough to not stall, and wont open the duty cycle any further, even if it could.

good luck.

I came across this post and I have the same exact problem, does anyone have any solutions to this that has had the problem? I posted about this about a year ago and everyone said the surging idle check list and to replace the iac, I replaced the iac and went through the surging idle check list and still have the problem.

If you have worked all the way through the "Surging Idle Checklist and it is still broke, go back and do it again. Be sure that you do not skip a step, because that might be the very thing that fixes your problem.

The reason I am so insistent about not skipping any steps is that I cannot be there to see, hear and feel what the engine is doing. The only way I know to compensate for that is to create a laundry list of steps that cover all the possible conditions.
