Won't start in PARK, but will in NEUTRAL. Any ideas?

Went to the gas station just a few minutes ago and, out of the blue, when I'm about to leave the car won't start. No clicking, no strained turn over, nothing.

Does anyone have any idea as to what this could be, or has this happened to anyone else?

your transmission range sensor is bad. this prevents you from starting it in drive or reverse but allow starting in park or neutral. replace it.

Damnedest thing. Today, it starts up fine in PARK. I'll still replace the sensor, just to be on the safe side. Thanks.

Wait a minute there buddy! The sensor may not be bad! It is adjustable. The sensor has slots where the bolts go through. You can move it to set the contacts. You dont want to spend $75.00 if you dont have to. Even if you buy a new one, your still going to have to set those contacts on the proper position of the shift lever, you may as well try to see if your off, before you go blow your money.

I wonder what could have set it off just that once? I had no idea about it being adjustable, figured just plug and go, so thanks. I'll probably just wait and see if it does it again for now, until I can actually check it out properly. I haven't noticed any odd behavior from the car, so.

Oh well, these cars are weird sometimes.
