I just got these gears from someone for $75 shipped. I opened up the package and found this.... Would you consider theses "good" still?

I'll answer the question in the thread title.

No... I would not put those gears in my car.

Yeah, this is kind of what I figured. Just wanted to clarify with others. I'll see what I can do about this.

Man, what sucks is that someone would actually sell those things...

I'm sure that didn't make too much noise in the car...

Alright, I agree. Now I need to rebuild or replace the traction lok and figured while I was in there, I would swap out the gears also. Car has 2.73's in it now... Should waste my time/money with a rebuild kit on the rear end or pick up a used diff out of a low mileage ride and go that route? What brand gears should I be looking for? These in the pictures are 3.55's... I think I might go 3.73's now.

Whats the combo? Gear the car for the application and powerband. 3.73's are a good all around gear but it depends what you want. I had 3.73's are they were WAY too small for my combo. I swapped in 4.30's and all 31 spline stuff recently.

Just buy a trac lock rebuild kit. I would change all the bearings, seals and races while I was there.

there is nothing wrong with used gears i have installed used gears a few times at $150 savings each i paid $45 for the last 373 gears off e-bay there running fine...i do think $75 is on the high side for a set of used gears..can you not return them or if they were damaged during shipping insurance should cover the price and if you buy items off e-bay use paypal, e-bay and paypal can help you recover money if seller does'nt refund...and don't buy from an individual who states in ad no refunds or as is your shooting yourself in the foot. now there might be a lesson learned to ask the seller questions from the info. listed above when buying and to insure shipments,do not buy with a check or money order only buy from paypal VERIFIED sellers using paypal yourself...thats the lesson learned...but i agree with all the other info. listed in this thread the gears are no good....and have you at least contacted the seller for a refund?

Yes. I got the gears from a friend in another state. He apparently bought them with the intent to use them but went AOD, so he wanted 4.11's. He never saw the gears, simply sent them to me for what he paid. I talked to him and he is looking for a replacement set of 3.73's to send me as we speak. Looks like it will all be handeled nicely.

Setup is currently pretty much stock. 1.7 roller rockers, under drive pulleys and some home made cat back exhaust. I plan to stay all motor.

3:73's would make things a bit more fun but I find I am already banging gears as fast as I can. It's like I just get the clutch out and I'm going for the next gear....I love it lol
