so it all starts with me driving... la la la la .... lots of fun, just driving, not too rough at all... then I notice the temp gauge rising... so I get to my destination and stop for a while. I get in and I drive some more... la la la la .... normal driving, no higher then 3500rpm. then again temp gauge rising... well I have no where to pull over so I have to get to an off ramp, I do then I shut her down. Tamp gauge was reading kinda high again, maybe middle of the "h". so I wait... few minutes go by. I start it up, crap!!! Check engine light!! So I dive to work, check codes, all 4 02's and evap canister... eh no biggie, so I clear them. I drive home and no problems at all. I go to the car to go out again, that darned check engine light is on again... annoying.
I go to work and look more into the codes and also why the car is attempting to overheat.
What do I find????????
Electric waterpump failed. It shorted out. I never really looked over the wiring for it, I assumed it would be fine. I knew the two had something to do with eachother.
one of the other codes that were present this time were p0602... fun. Reflash ecm... okay no biggie.
Now the kicker.
The waterpump was wired really oddly with relays and about 3 ground connections and the main wire went into the ecm wiring!!!!! red and yellow wire on the main harness.... when it shorted out it obviously went right to the ecm!!!!
I am getting a belt driven waterpump and pulley brought in this week. Then it's off to ford to see if they can simply reflash the ecm (we only have the software for chevy's) or if I need to invest in a new computer!!!
I am upset.
The good news is, I did a hydrocarbon test ( I was afraid I overheated it somehow and took a headgasket or two with me) and no... no unusual amount of hydrocarbons present. I think I lucked out on that one!!!
Well guys wish me luck on this one!!!!!
