Hey everybody, Dont go doing 5mph over the speed limit in vancouver. According to the new Racing laws, "zero tolerance" Will land you in jail. I should know, i went there last night. After 2 hours, handcuffs and being searched, printed and pictured, $219 to get the car out of inpound. F*** the police!!! Get a hobbie!!! All that for 5 over. F*** Washington. I need to move back to california.

Something tells me there is more to the story...lots of people get tickets for 5-10 over and unless you had a warrant or something they wont arrest you and tow your car. Were you racing UP TO the speed limit, and were 5 over when he clocked you? That may make more sense. It is against the law to accelerate excessively and seems to be based around the cars around you. There also doesnt need to be another car around you for you to be "speed racing'....its like exhibition of speed got melded into speed racing or something...IMO that is BS, but who am I.

I agree with you 100%.

I use to be a 911 dispatcher and am finishing my degree in criminal justice, and have logged countless hours of ride alongs with agencies from all over the place, my brother is LAPD and I have spent my life around law enforcement.

Police officers just don't give you a tickett for 5 mph over the speed limit and book you and tow your car and take your prints for nothing.

You either 1) had a warrant for your arrest, but then again you would not be out of jail so quickly, or 2) you were drag racing someone and you got caught even though you only going 5mph over the speed limit.

I hate it when people make the police out to be some sort of looser who has nothing better to do then to sit around and give them ticketts for doing nothing but being on the road innocently doing nothing other then just driving.

You have said a couple of key words such as zero tolerance which means you got busted for speed racing even if you were only going 45mph, not just innocently going 5mph over the speed limit. If what you are saying is true then that would mean that each person according to their no tolerance going over 5mph would be arrested, booked, and their car towed which I highly doubt is the case as most people going 5mph over, unless they are in a school zone is not even looked twice at by police.

Even if you were just accellerating to 45mph very quickly holding to redline in each gear that still a citation called demonstration of speed and nto legal.

I live in Vancouver and live just off of Mill Plain and that road especially on Friday and Saturday nights is like a drag strip in that each light it seems as though I have someone revving on me trying to race me.

I had WAY too many ticketts for speeding and doing stupid things that have finally all dropped off my record because I stoped using my bad judgement and kept the speed where it belonged on the track. I could no longer afford insurance and had to stop driving my car for a year becuase of it until I woke up.

I am very sorry for your trouble and your tickett but it's simple, you follow the rules and you don't get in trouble.

They are really starting to take Street Racing very serious, you should see what happens in L.A and San Diego now if you get caught, it's not pretty.

maybe you have to be going exactly five miles per hour over to get that sort of treatment.

4 over is to little, and 6 over is to much. It has to be five.

you can get a speed racing ticket, without going over the speed limit, trust me on that one

My old roomate was a cop, and I heard plenty of stories. There is a lot I learned from him about dealing with the police.

Being arrested is a completely discretionary process most of the time. Unless you have a warrant, or have committed a felony, taking you in is optional. They really can "write you a ticket and let you go" for even misdemeanor offenses like minor assault, theft, etc.

some things that will prevent a cop from doing that:

Pissing him/her off
being drunk/high
doing something completely reckless
being a smartass/resisting (see # 1)
showing a tendency to flee
giving the officer a reason to want a full booking on you.

Do any of these apply to you? if so, then the story makes more sense.

Been there, too. Long ago, I got pulled over and my license was suspended (long story, unimportant here). They are supposed to arrest you for that one, but because I was nice and polite (military is good for teaching you manners ), he let me go with just a ticket.

I have noticed that trouble seems to follow some people around. Only so much can be chalked up to bad luck, after a while you have to figure there is something going on... and I don't mean a conspiracy by the cops .

Yup. Here is a pretty good guide on how to avoid tickets. Its seriously one of the best things you can read regarding the subject. From Good old Ernie of Ernie's house of whoopass.

(e). Respect. Harsh truth kids. That officer at your window... whether or not it's a he or a she, whether or not he has pimples or she has little ###s, whether or not he's good looking or her she walks with a limp, has the power to take that instrument of death strapped to their waist and start a blasting. They can take your license, your car, your freedom and if they feel so inclined your life. They have the ultimate power. Accept this. Treat them as such. Learn these phrases: Yes sir, No ma'am, Absolutely officer. Treat them with respect, and they'll treat you with respect. Most cops are NOT a$$holes. And don't 'yes sir no sir' them to death -- that gets dry. If you think to yourself that you're starting to sound like a broken record, then guess what balloonhead, you probably are. In the ongoing war between speeding driver and ticketing cop, you've just been taken prisoner of war. And in this prison camp, all they serve is humble pie, so eat your slice. And if it's a female cop, eat an even bigger slice, because little girl cops don't get as much respect as little boy cops. So compensate for it.

(i) ###s. Believe it or not - and I can't believe I'm saying this but based upon feedback from several cops I have to - you have to hide em girls. Yeah I know, "Who am I and what did I do with Ernie?" Well, one of the cops wrote in with this pearl of wisdom, and I guess it made a lot of sense. He said, "Your badge may get you ####y, but ####y will get your badge." And really girls you only have yourself to blame. You see what happens is these hot b##ches will get pulled over and issued tickets... and then they'll file complaints against the officers who ticketed them claiming said officer only pulled them over to flirt and get their telephone number. So, most of the cops who wrote in actually say if they pull over some chick and she tries to turn on her cleavage charm, they write her up for everything they can think of just to eliminate any sense of doubt... speeding, no signal lights, no seat belt, tail light out, throwing out their gum, whatever. So girls, keep those ###s covered. God, I can't believe I just said that. Oh, and no f'ing crying either. That's just annoying and makes us want to slap you.

OK, now that im a little cooler, here is the honest to God truth. Sittin at a stop light like 2 miles from my house. civic pulls up to stop light. light goes green, we both take off, no burn outs, not peeling out, nothing. I go, shift into 2nd, let off, so im just about 40-45... 40 is the limit. Cop pulls out with lights on. Pulls over civic, and so i was like, damn, so i pull over too. Cop comes up to civic, then my car, gets info. and then i sit for like a half hour. 2 cops come up to my window about then, get me out of my car, hand cuffs, arrested for racing. Then they question me like they had no idea what was going on. I didnt know the guy, had not premeditation. Bame, in the back of the car and car towed. Was released, got my car out of impound and got home about 3am just in time to get up at 5:30 to get to work. Fun stuff.

Police officers just don't give you a tickett for 5 mph over the speed limit and book you and tow your car and take your prints for nothing.

- Come up to Camas sometime, I'll show you my "driving too agressively" ticket... didnt spin the tires, didnt exceed the 35mph limit, but was driving too agressively.... The same cop has pulled me over like 5-6 times within sight of my house. Tinted windows, Loud exhaust, D.T.A., speeding (nothing on the gun "i already cleared it.") ****ing liar. Worthless donut eating prick.

You either 1) had a warrant for your arrest, but then again you would not be out of jail so quickly, or 2) you were drag racing someone and you got caught even though you only going 5mph over the speed limit.

- If they would stop doing this kind of crap, then there wouldn't be a problem.... Like the guy who pulls me over for 72 on the freeway (I was being passed by a suburban pulling a boat at the time) geeeee which one of us poses a greater risk in an emergency situation, the one with 13" disc brakes, full suspention package, sticky tires, etc... and so on.... or the guy in the 8000 lb torpedo of death????? But which one gets pulled over, you guessed it .... the musclecar.

You have said a couple of key words such as zero tolerance which means you got busted for speed racing even if you were only going 45mph, not just innocently going 5mph over the speed limit. - If a mustang was "holding to redline" he wouldnt even be out of 2nd gear untill highway speed.... mine just touches 60 on the 2-3 upshift.

I live in Vancouver and live just off of Mill Plain and that road especially on Friday and Saturday nights is like a drag strip in that each light it seems as though I have someone revving on me trying to race me.

- YES IT IS, but the problem is that WEEEEEE (the patrons of this forum) are down at PIR on F&S nights... so dont lay the blame for the ricer-nationals on our shoulders.

I had WAY too many ticketts for speeding and doing stupid things that have finally all dropped off my record because I stoped using my bad judgement and kept the speed where it belonged on the track. I could no longer afford insurance and had to stop driving my car for a year becuase of it until I woke up.

- would those be the rules that apply to us in nice cars, with tinted windows and good exhaust systems, or the rules that apply to people like the lady in the green minivan who runs the red left turn light in front of me (I know it was red cuz mine just went green to go strait) while one of "vancouvers finest" (laugh, yeah right) sits next to me, makes a comment to his partner, they both shake their heads and then drive on beside me. NOW... if it had been a mustang run the red, what do you think would have happened????? um, lights and siren come to mind????

If the f-n pigs would start enforcing the law equally, instead of rousting certain groups, I wouldnt have such a TOTAL lack of respect for them.

I wont flame ya ddonaca, because you make a good point. Cops do enforce selectively, and do pre judge you.

My last ticket (I posted a thread in here) was a pretty good example. The cop used to tail me and follow me thru town, and one day, when I was in a pack of four cars going the same speed, he picked me to pull over. My car, as you know is a red mustang GT with tinted windows, exhaust, wheels, etc. So yeah, he singled me out.

but, I was speeding, so I didnt fight it. I guess what it comes down to is, we build these cars knowing we'll be a target, and if we dont like it, we should look at that forest green minivan again!

with all due respect.
