wth, should this be right

ok so im at the track, and im racing against my good friends jetta 1.8t. he has a full turboback exhaust, downpipe, and a manual boost controller letting him run 10-11 psi. now i've got alot of mods so i figure ill take him real easy. o/r h pipe, magnaflow catback, u/d pullies, trickflow intake (street), 75mm TB, upper and lower control arms, 3.73 gears. also, smog and ac delete and i carry roughly 40 lbs of audio in the trunk. also, i figure 285/35 tires should get enough grip to give me some kind of launch. so anyway, i launch just a little before him, but almost instantly he pulls even with me and stays even through first, half of second and by then i pull. midway through third i've got about 2 cars on him. all of first im spinning, and im trying to feather the clutch to let the tires grab so im not giving full power. now, i can think of only 2-3 reasons why hes keeping up. one, my egr tube snapped at the header connection, so it is leaking quiet a bit. two, my tires are past the wear bar, and three i cant slam into third too fast because my syncros are going. could these reasons be why im not pulling on him more? or is his car just that fast?

Do you have slips from the track? Then we can tell if somethings up with your car. The 1.8t modified can do pretty decently. I've seen a couple GTIs around here that kick some ass.

You answered your own question. You said you where spinnin all of first. Sometimes its hard to judge how much the traction is effecting the race.

But if you had a good set of tire and had good traction you would have start out at 2 car threw first pulled away when you hit second and would have been 4cars ahead by the time you went to third.

Then you could granny shift to third to save those syncros alittle longer

Plus with the 3:73 gears 2nd is the strong gear, you see your self pull away more than anything in second than you just have to keep the lead threw 3rd.

u really have to watch out for those turbo VW's... just last month I seen one run at IRP in indy.... 12.3 ... talked to the guy.. all he had was exhaust, boost controller, upgraded FMIC, and runnin 17psi...

Honestly, ur car doesnt have a WHOLE lot in mods as far as being a speed demon.. and the fact that you stated all those problems... bad traction... bad 3rd gear syncro.. Im surprised he didnt pass u up

Basically, yea... sounds about right. is this tech anyways?
