XXX block question...

Ok. I bought a 302 shortblock for 50.00 and it turns easy....no ridge.....clean. My question is : What is the XXX markingson either side of the valley. The guy I bought it from said it is a designation for heavy duty. Also it has what looks like E7TE stamped in the drivers side of the block.....Just curious as to if I got something oddball....Thanx

i forget what it means but i know there is also YYY blocks

Maybe it means it came in a car with "PORNO RED" interior...hahahah

XXX and YYY means they are roller blocks.... E7 is the block code for 1987. I think they used that block untill they stopped using the 302 though.

My 85 block has XXX and the 91 block that I am using for my 347 has YYY, so probably sometime after 87 they switch to YYY. Basically, it doesn't mean anything.

i've heard XXX are roller blocks and YYY are flat tappet..but i'm not sure and i could be mixed up..basically like Fast63 said it doesn't mean a thing(i had a guy try to sell me one because XXX meant police interceptor block and it had like 6,0000000HP)

haha, yeah police interceptor engine blocks were no different from production blocks. XXX and YYY blocks are both roller.

I was always told that if it had XXX on it but spread out across the lifter valley it was called to **** block. Dont know why but thats i heard.

my old flat tappet had either XXX or YYY on the block..so not ONLY roller blocks have this stamp, FT blocks do too

What year was your FT engine?

I have heard that XXX and YYY blocks came FT but were setup for roller also.

They came in "Peter North Edition" vehicles with "Porno Red" interiors. Block is made to handle a blower.

there will be two screw holes in the center of the lifter valley for the dog bone hold down tray.

if it has holes in between the lifters for that clyinder for the dog bones then its roller?

he shows a shot with the lifters which are rollers and rods ect

it means it was a factory roller block and can be used with roller lifters easy, just find some dog bones and spider plate and it will work fine.

doesn't really mean anything. i've had both XXX and YYY blocks and both were roller motors.
