Dome Light Problem

Earlier today I opened the drivers side door while the engine was running, ran into the house for a minute, then back out to the car, since then I have not been able to get the dome light to go off. I have opened and closed both doors several times, and even drove the car for about 20 minutes. For now I have pulled the fuse, but that is only a temporary fix, does anyone have any thoughts on what else to try? It is my understanding that newer mustangs don't have the traditional style door switches for interior lights, instead they just send an open or closed signal to the computer.

the headlight knob also doubles as controller for the brightness of the interior lighting and the "dome light" on/off switch. maybe when you jumped out of your car you nicked it into the on position... try turning the headlight knob either to the right or the left a bit. that should fix it, i think.

That's what I did. It worked... now it's back. You need to get a new pin-switch for your door. It's a real pain in the ass. I just took the domelight out. You still have two other lights up there, but they're manual.

the switches are in the door latch itself and are APITA to replace. The dome light is also controlled by the GEM.The GEM is located beside the fuse panel under the dash , it has three plugs in the bottom and two on the back.

Try this...worked on my Expedition. Spray some WD40 in the door latches. Those switches stick sometimes and a little lube will free them up. Guys on the F150 forums told me about this one.

are you certain that it's the door switch? It happened to me once and my dad just grab the headlight knob and played with it for 2 seconds and fixed it..

Try to lock your doors with your key remote and double click the lock button. If the switch is faulty, your horn will honk twice. It's basically saying you have a door open. Even tho you don't in this case...

Double clicking the remote lock gives me two quick horn beeps, so I guess it means that it is the switch. So how do I change it?

i had this same problem with my 03gt. it eventually stopped. now i have no iterior lights because the fuse keeps blowing and i have the double beep from the horn. where exactly do i spray the wd40?

Sounds like yours is a short if the fuse keeps blowing. Might have a crimped wire somewhere.

Before anything spray WD40 inside your door where it latches and get a flat tip screwdriver and use it to lock unlock the latch a few times to work the WD40 in. Happened on my last mustang and it was a 2 minute fix.

i had this same problem with my 03gt. it eventually stopped. now i have no iterior lights because the fuse keeps blowing and i have the double beep from the horn. where exactly do i spray the wd40?

It has now been almost a year and I have yet to be able to get this gremlin. The only symptoms I had that I noticed before this started was one instance of the interior light not shutting off and a seperate instance of the double beep when locking the doors with the remote. Only one time for both of those. Here is the problem as it is now:
The #7 15 amp fuse blows the instant it makes contact. This is with the key off and out of the ignition, the door closed and no acc. plugged in. The #7 fuse controls GEM and interior lights. I have removed every bulb that I can that I know is asst. with that fuse: dome, map, trunk and it still blows. I get a single beep when I lock the doors so I am inclined to think that it is not the latch.

What is drawing power when the doors are closed and there is no key in the ignition?

Can I try a 25 amp fuse?

You need to find the problem-I wouldn't put a larger fuse in. As they say, once you let the smoke out-you can't put it back in.
