How do I tell him not to sell his car?

Situation: A friend of mine has a Bullitt. He got on a waiting list well in advance to get it and was going nuts the months leading up to him buying it. He was one of the first ones to have it.

Since then the car has never seen rain, has probably been Zaino'ed 50 times, and is in immaculate condition. The car might even look better than new (if that's possible). The only flaw is a tiny paint chip he got and he flipped out about it for weeks after it happened. It's got 10-12,000 miles on it.

He's having a shorty in a few months and tells me - "I'm probably selling the Bullitt", to which I'm like "Are you f-ing kidding me?"

Some of his reasoning is based on the fact that the blue book value of the car has gone down more than he expected. It's not that much different than a GT (in his words), so there's no point of having it. He also says that he might need another car to commute the 60 miles to work. Lastly, he likes the F150.

He's not in any sort of financial bind or anything. He's got a Fusion and an Escape, so he's not hurting for vehicles. WTF can't he have four?

If this were a year from now, I'd actually consider buying it from him 1) to stop him from selling it and 2) to give it a guaranteed good home.

How do I convince him to keep it?

tell him that theres a reason why he was on a waiting list...

tell him to keep it..take it off the road and lock it away(occasionally starting it of course!) if he really wants to sell it...

I agree... tell him to sell one of the other vehicles instead... maybe gone down in value now, but 1. I think if he is just worried about value, it will increase down the line, and 2. who cares about the value, mustangs don't hold value... it is just an awesome car, and I don't know about non-mustang people, but when I see a bullitt in person (has only happened once, and it was not all that well taken care of), I am in awe... stupid to give up a car that inspires awe if it is not financially necessary.... unless he just doesn't really like it and is looking for an excuse to get rid of it...

If I had bought a Bullitt in 2001, and I remember seeing them on the showroom floor (one green, one black), I wouldn't have sold it/traded it in. As it was, I bought a GT and traded it in two years later for the Mach 1. This one I'm keeping.

If you want it that bad, give him an incentive. Find out what he's asking for it, then give hime a down payment to hang onto it for the next year until you're able to put together the rest of the money together to buy it. You should be able to scratch together a grand or so on short notice.

Seriously tho, once people dicided to sell it, specialy because he thinks its losing value fast, nothing is going to convince him otherwise. He might as well sell it to someone who would appriciate the fact its serial numbered car, and enjoy it. And as far as your friend goes, tell him to get Cobra R. you know those don't lose the value

on personal note, i don't care for people who keeps the car immacuate for the future resale value - remind me of all those poor 88 Pontiac Fiero GT still sitting in garage. You know those the last time it ran was when it was driven from dears, because owner is waiting for the value to skyrocket.

Lighter was early one with 4 cylinders i think

88 GT with 2.5 V-6 was what should have came out in 84 in the first place. Correct engine(or better then was at least), re-designed cooling system, and correct rear suspention geometry(until 87, they had really twitchy rear suspension set up - something like when the load is lifted in corner, like let off the gas, or go over the bump caused too much toe angle change or something like that. 3S-GTE MR2 suffered similer issue until 92 model) made it the best fiero there was.
88 Fireo was much better car. Just was not as good as Toyota MR2. Altough not as fast as Fiero, MR2 was VASTLY better car then fireo in turm of handring, reliability, and oh the sound of those 4A-GE spinning at 7500RPM...

It's his car. Let him sell it. And if he ever regrets it, then feed him alot of s**t. All us people owning these special edition cars are about 95% likely to not own them in 5 years or so. So who cares about future value.

I don't believe, personally, that it will ever appreciate in value over and above what the buyer originally paid for it.

Unless of course the car in question is bone stock with extraordinarily low mileage and in superb condition. Even then, it doubt it.

My grandma has one that she bought off of the showroom floor and my jaw still drops everytime i look at/sit in it. Its completely stock w/ 34K miles and the only reason they are keepin it is because they love it. They don't expect it to appreciate, but they appreciate it enough to keep it till either me or my brother is out of college to sell it to us for a good home.

My friend had an '88 GT and i loved it, car handled like it was on rails. He had a plan of dropping an L67 motor in it but he got tired of it and sold it then got an rx7.
