ok...finnally got the car back together:SNSign: ....i jb welded my old valve cover which i destroyed trying to get the old one off so i could put my new ones on(didn't know they wouldn't fit:shrug: )....i filled the radiator while it was still jacked up and it looked like i had a leak (slow drip from the water pump?)....so i lowered it and the drip slowed down....i was like ok...let me take it down the street....about 1/2 block away i smelled something weird....i then turned around and went home when i got home...i saw a little smoke coming from the driver side headers(?) and i could hear a little exhaust leak from the passenger side....good news i then looked under the car and didn't see a leak....:nice: so anyway i think i have the exhaust leak fixed...i think it was my egr tube......will know tomorrow....

If they're the high temp painted ones, they'll smoke for a day or two as the paint kind of burns-in (and eventually flakes off). I think the aluminized ones do that, too, since it's essentially a paint on them.

If you touched them at all with your hands or if anything gets on them it will burn it off eventually. I know when I work on the car I usually end up touching or grabbing the header with my dirty mechanix gloves. Even when I wipe off everything something still smokes off the header tubes for awhile.

ok...i forgot to say that they are hts coated....also i used the metal gaskets that i recieved with my headers......i'm run them tomorrow after i get off work.....i'm not going to take a chance driving it to work yet...

I did my headers (new) and X pipe (used) at the same time. Without a doubt they smoked after install, I was freaking out but after some searching I relaxed. A couple days later it went away.

Having your car smoking and smelling awful doesn't instill confidence though.

You should have your funnel pop out, while topping off your AODE transmission with fluid. Now that'll make you worried. Tranny fluid on a hot header = instant and thick white smoke. :rlaugh:

The first time I fired up my 418 the whole car slowly filled with smoke. It scared the crap out of me! But, my dad said it was normal, and it did stop smoking after a few minutes. :)

no big deal... my mac o/r h smoked n smelled. then later when i did my aode-t5 swap i installed all the exhaust with dirty hands and a bunch of never seize. when that started smoking i could have swore i was frying the wire harness or the new puter. that def freaked me out a bit too:D

this makes me feel a little better

i changed my valve cover gaskets and used som degreaser onthe covers to get some of the crud off you think it would be normal for some thin white smoke to still be coming out of the engine bay
