95 Cobra Flywheel / 95 GT Flywheel : IS THERE A DIFFERENCE?

i know i have asked before and i got a few responses but i have to know for sure.

ford dealerships show two different part #'s but cant tell me if they are any different because they can only go back 10 years?

after my T5 to cobra T5 swap, i have vibration. if the car is in neutral or the clutch is depressed and i give throttle and i feel vibration, is that the flywheel? it also does it going down the road. seems to change with rpm.

i just had the cobra flywheel resurfaced b4 the swap. could the flywheel be bad? could the machine shop have screwed up? could i have screwed up?

can i just buy a new GT flywheel?

does anyone know if there is a weight difference in two???????????

please help

i appreiate you looking that up for me. so the tooth count is the same. handful of people have said the tooth count is the same but the cobra is lighter

Don't see how it is lighter as there is no cobra or gt specific is one 157t. Maybe just a few cobra owners wanting to feel special but they are all the same. I have talked with ddperfoamce before and the Walshes are great to talk with. I though about going with a billet when I did my clutch and they advised against it. They said the stocker was more then enough, honest folks to deal with. If they sold G-force tranny they would get my $$ hands down.

The Cobra flywheel IS lighter. When you set it side by side with a stock GT flywheel it's very obvious. There is a lot less material in the Cobra flywheel. It's been a while since I compared the two but I belive the cobra flywheel is aprox 5lbs lighter than a GT flywheel.

5lbs.........and could cause vibration in my scenario?

no the 5lbs isn't going to cause the vibration. Aside from weight they are identicle. When you set them side by side you can see they are the same flywheel the cobra wheel just has less material to it.

we marked the D/S when we took it out and when we put it back in and drove it after everything was swapped....vibration was bad. we looked again at the d/s and noticed we didnt put it back right. we lined it back and drove it and it was better but still there. moved the exhaust some...slight better but still there.

the vibration starts are soon as you turn the key over. it just doesnt 'feel' the same as it did when the old t5/bell/fw was in there. just not as smooth feeling. if i remember correctly, the vib will happen when the car is sitting still in neutral or when clutch is mashed. but seems to worsen with rpm speed. very noticable while driving too. while the vib is not terrible , i dont like it and it wasnt there b4.

fiveoho - Either one of those flywheels you posted will work, I actually have the latter one in mine.

Are you feeling the vibe thru your pedal? Or thru the car (everything)?

I have read, although I have some reservations about it, that if all the dowel pins aren't placed (there are 3 of them) or are placed incorrectly that it could cause some vibes. I do not think the factory balance is that precise though. Just my opinion.

Did you use the clutch alignment tool when installing the clutch?

thru the pedal. more thru out the car tho.

i actually order the FMS wheel and i ordered the matching bolt and dowel kit. did you have good luck with yours?

when i got the resurfaced cobra wheel back from the machine shop, all three pins were there and seemed to be placed correctly.

i did use the clutch alignment tool.



maybe the new wheel will solve my problems? can just a machine shop put the dowels in?

Anytime, I have been thru quite a few clutch jobs with my car and others:)

The flywheel was just fine, it was like a brand new stock one.

I used the pressure plate/dowel pin kit from Ford, which you got as well. It was just fine too.

You can put the dowel pins in your self easily. There are many holes in the flywheel but only a few have 'stops' down inside them. Find one and locate it, and then make a triangle between all the holes with 'stops' in them.

The stops is where the dowel pins will hit. Just tap them in lightly with a hammer until they get started inwards and then just hammer then down hard until they bottom out.

Again just make sure they are in the holes with the stops. If your pressure plate matched up and bolted down correctly you more than likely had the dowel pins (alignment pins) located correctly.

I was going to suggest if it was just thru the pedal, you may need the cable tightened up. But if it is thru the car, something is a bit wacky.

I personally didn't have problems with my stock driveshaft position, it was in two different locations and I didn't notice a problem.

i was hoping that the dowels could be put in without taking it back to the machine shop :nice: . makes me feel better i chose the same fw and bolts/dowels as you. yours worked out good. hopefully this will solve my problem.
