I was having some issues with random hard starting where it would turn over a bunch of times before actually starting. Some people suggested it may be a IAC valve and others said no. I also had a problem where it would idle kind of rough and have a faint backfire type of popping sound coming from under the hood.

So I replaced the valve this weekend with one from Ford ($100) just to see if it would make a difference and so far both problems are gone. The installation is painless and Im glad I did it.

Now watch it start doing it again since I made this post!

I always heard cleaning it was only a temporary fix or didnt do anything at all.

Im still getting the hard starting problem and it almost didnt start at all this morning! Im going to make a new thread and see if I can get some solutions.

When was the last time you checked the plugs? When was the fuel filter last changed? Is the starter still torquing the engine like normal when trying to start or is it slower? Little bit better description of the problem could help....

Fuel filter was done a few months ago. I havent looked at the plugs. The starter turns just fine.

If it were plugs wouldnt it do it every time? Its only every few days that it will do it and then usually one time that day.

Is it a cold start, warm start, doesn't matter? Any engine mods? I was thinking maybe a battery but since you said the starter spins freely then hmmm...... Same tank of gas since this started happening or has it been through a few? I'm trying to go through the "obvious" list first....

I used to think it was more when it was hot but it was stone cold this morning. Its been doing this for about a year now and Ive just been living with it but this morning was really bad so now I need to get on it. There are no engine mods either.

Ok so you replaced your IAC and you still have the same problem? I know mine only dose it when it’s damp out or raining out. Other then that it will start with out a problem. If it does stall on start I keep my foot on the gas and it stays running but as soon as I let off it stalls. Once I rev it a few times it will stay running. It would be nice if it did this every time so I could bring it to Ford and let them take a look at it. I just never know when it’s going to do it. One time I got it started when it was doing this and it idled at about 200 rpm. I was surprised it stayed running. This problem is starting to piss me off:mad:

I replaced the battery since it was the original battery and they said it was on the verge of being bad. It didnt help. The problem is getting worse. I took it by my mechanic friends house and he seems to think its not getting enough fuel or getting too much. We are going to put a pressure guage on it and if its not reading correctly then replace the fuel pump.

Anyone know the price of a fuel pump?
