i want gears!...future supercharger though...

Ok heres the question. i really want some gears for my stang, but i think im going to get a kenne bell in about a year, and i dont want to have to switch out my gears if i get it. Im not 100% sure if ill get it, but if i do, i want to have appropriate gears for the extra power (if i knew for sure, id probably just get the 3.55 gears). Are 3.73s commonly done with superchargers, or is it smarter to just leave the stock gears if im thinking blown..?

Im in the same situation. I want a blower soon too, but I dont know when I will actually be able to afford one. I also want to get some 4:10's right now, but I think they might be overkill when I get a blower. The 3:55's I have are ok, but i know the 4:10's would be nice on the Mach. And 373's would be a waste of money 4 me.

You could do like me and get 3.90's ;) Honestly though, everybody is different, and you might not want more gear after a blower. I was pretty satisfied when I was running 3.55's and my Vortech, but I decided on even more gear after running 3.73's for a brief period...thus the 3.90's going in asap. :nice:

I'm with Benny, do the blower first. I run a KB and I was really impressed with the performance. It put down 342rwhp and about 310-320 rwt on the dyno.(6psi non I/C) very mild tune. If you do the math, that should be about a 12.5-12.7 car. The plus side with the stock gears is that I get 23 mpg on the interstate. I did however go to 3.55s recently. If mileage is an issue, and if you have some $$ to spend, you might consider going to a lighter flywheel. This is an option that worked extremely well on the street, and doesn't effect mileage, emisions or anything else.
That being said, there are NO other mods that will make a bigger improvement on a NA car than gears.
One other thing, IMHO buy the KB "tuner" kit and have a local guy supply the chip, and injectors. KB's customer service is non-existant, so the less you have to deal with them, the better.

I have 3:73's with my kb@ 9psi,5 speed, I think there perfect. 1rst gear can be tricky. if I drop the hammer at about 2800 rpm in 2nd on a chip sealed road with bfg kdw's it picks the frontend up and ****s and gits. on smooth asphault traction is an issue

This subject has been beaten to death.
With 410's you might run out of gear at the track.
You gotta shift into 5th at around 113- 115 with 410's, and by then you're out of the power band.
That's cutting it pretty close if you're putting out decent power.
I have 373's and with a good 60' time I can trap higher than 115, so I say go with 373's when force fed.

I ran consistant 1.9 60ft times, and I could only manage to trap 113. I have 3.73's and it's a 5 speed. Granted, this was on street tires, and a pretty nasty slipping clutch. Maybe I spun going into second pretty bad too.

As far as this topic goes, its all the same.

Auto, roots/twin screw 4.10
Auto, centri 4.10+

Manual roots/twin screw 3.73
Manual centri 4.10

A lot of this depends on what tires you're running at the track. If you're running tall tires, it can mess up you gearing. You basically don't want to have to shift to 5th. Traction also has to do with where you'l be in your rpm band.

Thats a good trap speed bro... what was your et? Nice 60' too. From what I see at the track, anything under 2 seconds is good.
Try staging as shallow as you can, believe it or not that little bit of rolling you do before you break the beam is good for at least a tenth, maybe 2.
