burn the tires at high mph!!

Wow, a thread to prove who has the worst suspension/tire combo! My 88 2.3T has some traction issues, but it isn't anything too wild yet.

I have a C4 transmission, with a stock pinto torque converter (about a 2500rpm stall speed) with 3.73s in the back. In 1st, it will spin from a roll at pretty much any rpm to the 5500 shift point which is ~45mph). It will always lay rubber in a full throttle 1-2 shift and can continue doing so until at 55-60mph. It won't lay rubber in 2nd from a roll unless I'm at slow speeds, where the converter multiplies the torque... but then again, 2nd is gear to get to 75mph before shifting. Of course, I've scared myself at higher speeds, but these don't count becuase it was poor surface.

I have springs more suited to AutoX (very stiff), but hopefully it'll hook better soon, with 4cyl springs in the front again and non-performance struts. The car is just way to light in the back, with a suspension that doesn't transfer weight well.

My buddy's '04 Mach 1 would get a nice bark at 75 MPH on the 2-3 shift - bone stock, with the original Goodyears, dry pavement. Not "burning" them, per se, but anything that can break the tires loose at that speed is plenty fast for me. :nice:

My notch did that with just free mods and gears. That can be much more a product of how hard you shift rather than how fast the car is. My problem as of late was the inability to spin the tires in 3rd gear on the freeway (drag radials). With the amount of torque I'm laying down the t-5 did not likey! :owned:

Yeah, come to think of it, I've barked the 2-3 shift in my dead stock 97GT (still a paper filter and 6 cats). Not often, but with the junk out of the trunk, I was barking the 2-3 each time at the track.

c4 trans , 3.27 gears and something around 400+ hp .... if i leave the gar in high gear and smack it .... it will spin then hook and go .

if i down shift to 2nd the car will go all over the road ..... which i dont find very safe so i only do it on occasion .

the car has been 11.0 at 123 + with good tires

See these are the kind of power numbers needed to be spinning fishtailing at highway speeds...

My brothers bone stock 06 would spin into 3rd when I powershifted it. Ive had mine spin a tiny bit when hitting 4th hard on the street and the clutch is working right! Theres a huge difference between a hard shift and getting a chirp or some tire spin, and rolling at 65 mph, flooring it, and having the car get tail happy!

My friends dart block, 331, T-Trim combo would barely catch traction when he nailed it in 3rd with 275 nittos. I think he's now going to keep the M/Ts on.

On a side note, back in IL, when I had a 2.3, one winter I was in an ice filled parking lot. I mashed the gas, and the one tire started spinning. Thats typical, but this time the transmission(auto) shifted. I kept on the gas, and next thing I knew, I had that one tire going at about 90mph.

Old video, but I always LOVE the part with the black SN95 about 1 minute and 50 seconds into the video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6066079704609107220&hl=en

Did I see a little tire smoke? And a little fish-tailing?
Be sure to read "apparently not fast enough"
Yeah that's another win for the ricers in my book...:rlaugh:
They can brag about "beating" a fox body that couldn't keep traction.
