Getting the ignition cylinder out

A while back I remember the way to get the cylinder out is to put the key in, turn it and then you should see a way to get it out. I don't see anything, but I don't know what to look for. How do you get it out?

you have to take the plastic piece under the neck of the steering wheel,

key in turn there is a hole on bottomside of the cylinder with a pin in it push the pin in and pull on the key and poof its out.

To be explicit, the key has to be turned to the run position.

There should be a hole in the lower column cover to allow you to access the pin without having to remove the column shroud.

Everything Hissin said is spot on. I did it just last week. Took 30 seconds to get it out and about 15 to get the new one in.

Ok hissin well heres my question for you. Once you get the cylinder out is it serviceable in the sense where I can open it up and put the key detents from my old cylinder in that one so I dont have a million different keys?

a locksmith should be able to cut it so it matches your stock keys

Urban's right on. I would not want to open one up (some Ford locks come with instructions and a kit to rekey them - I dont believe ours do).

I've had new ig. locks rekeyed for about 15 bucks (with having a couple spare keys made too). Definitely money well spent to have someone else do it if you have fat fingers and little patience like me.

Well I myself know that working for chrysler we open the cylinders and change the little keys in them to match the factory key so the customer doesnt have a million keys, that why I was wondering. Because its pretty simple with the chrysler units but I have never done one with the good old ford.

Do you have the lock cylinder yet? FOrd made sever different key codes (5 or 6). If you get a ford cylinder with the proper key code you can rekey the lock. I have directions for figuring out your key code...I know HISSIN I was supposed to post those up a while ago . I keep forgetting to bring them to school so I can scan them. Maybe I'll take a pic with my digi cam and post that up.
