Am I being screwed?

I had my transmission rebuilt 2 seasons ago with all performance stuff [So I was told]. It ended up costing me $1700. I've had the transmission worked on twice, once costing me $500, and the other $600. I'm currently up to $2800 on an rebuilt AODE trans. It broke again and I brought my car back to the guy. The car would no shift into 3rd gear. He said he tried a new transmission control module and it still didn't work. He said that the clutches are probably burnt out and he'd have to rebuild the transmission again.

Last time he rebuilt it he said he used Borg Warner performance parts. He said that this time he would use Red Eagle racing clutches and would split the price of the transmission with me 50/50.

The first time when he rebuilt the transmission I was told it would be good until around 550RWHP. I doubt I'm even at 325RWHP [on the spray] right now. My engine has 173,000 miles on it, has never been rebuilt, and has the mods in my sig... On engine I'm guessing that I'm around 215-225rwhp. I hardly spray the car [I haven't since last summer] and I hardly even beat on it. I plan on putting in my H/C/I engine soon and I need something that can handle it...

Am I being screwed? Would I be better off to just get a brand new transmission? Should I go with a T5? What about a 7r40w?

What should I do?! I'm sick and tired of this...

I can see why. But if you get a T5 you will be pissed again.

Id either tell the guy that you want everything in writing. Like a gaurantee for like 2 years.

If it breaks again, he fixes it. Either that or go elsewhere and make him pay half like he had said.

Get a different transmission guy if he says he knows what hes doing the tranny should'nt break at the horsepower you are at .Obviously he doesnt know how to rebuilt good transmissions if they keep failing you. Also did he recomend an auxiliry trans cooler if not go to a different trans guy.

I guess a stock 4r70w would be all you would need. And a tune, of course, for the difference in gear ratio's. You could prolly buy the trans cheap, and get the tune via chip from Don LaSota, by mail. (There was a guy buying 4r's from a local JY for like $100 each. From low mileage 2001-up v6 cars. It coyld be shipped via Greyhound for little $$$.) Prolly have less than $500 in parts, for something that will last a good long time. I was seriously considering it, myself.

what could you have possibly done to cause this? doesn't it have to be either bad parts or poor workmanship?

if he won't fix it for free, i'd tell him to take a hike and go to someone else.

you can also tell him that you are very active in the mustang forums and that you will not give him a good reference, which will definately cause him to lose business.

50/50 on what? Parts or labor or both? I had mine replaced about a year ago (with a remanufactured) and it started slipping so on the second trip back there they replaced it and replaced the valve body under warranty for no charge. Most transmission shops here give a one year/12,000mile warranty on a rebuild or three years/36000 mile on a remanufactured. Here it was $1500 for a rebuild and $1700 for a remanufactured so it seemded like a better deal to go with the $1700 one.
