how would i go about upgrading to PATS anti-theft system? has this been done? i know the keys are different and i believe the tumbler and a box in the trunk complete the system.
-is this a wiring nightmare?
-am i missing other parts? can i get it all from a junkyard car?
-opinions?
thanks guys

i was interested in PATS because it seemed like it would be a cheap way to upgrade if i can pull all the stuff out of a junker. a couple reasons i dont wanna go aftermarket, i dont want a huge key fob, dont want it going off everytime a loud car ,truck, stray pet goes by plus 99% of the features an alarm adds i dont need.
- i dont have a stereo or wheels to jack, i just dont want someone to be able to drive off with it.
-If anybody has upgraded to this, what parts do i need and how long does it take? is it as simple as getting the key and tumbler and the box in the trunk?thanks

The PATS system is integrated into the ECM and the dash wiring harness. The column also uses a different key and ignition. I don't know if is would be possible to upgrade. Heavy wiring experience would be necessary!! I would honestly just make a kill switch and hide it in the car. Best thing to do hands down because you can get creative with how you make it disable and enable car to run.

I can't share some of the ways I have integrated some, but they were a real trick...it was more involved than pushing a button or flipping a switch.

i was hoping it wasnt intergrated into the ECU:( i've done kill switches before. only thing i dont like is finding a compromise between convienience and effectiveness.
-hide it too well and your buddy/gf/dad/valet cant pull the car around for ya without knowing about it
-make it too simple and its pointless
to me the best part about PATS is the PASSIVE part
oh well:shrug:
