HI guys….got another issue with my 97 GT….at start up, I get a “squealing” noise…(motor area)....I’ve had this for some time and suspected it was the belt…..I was told that the belt was fine and that it was probably one of the pulleys. I have ignored it as the squealing would go away after the motor ran for 5 or so minutes.

Now……the squealing has gotten really loud (!) and doesn’t really go away, it gets quiets down, but doesn’t go completely away any longer!

I suspect that it could be the Tensioner pulley…..has anyone had this problem or have any ideas about what is going on?

Thanks in advance!

well it can be the tensioner or the belt.........spray some lubricant on the belt if it goes away then its the belt slipping

don't spray lubricant on your belt, lol. It most likely is the automatic belt tensioner. Many of us have had this same problem. Needs to be replaced, 3 simple bolts no big deal.
Have a vid of my old squeaky tensioner, but the camera couldn't pick up much of the high pitch the squeaking. http://youtube.com/watch?v=ebBbzkT-93s

I have whistle or squeal for more then year now. I have changed belt, idler pulley, tensioner, gasket, alternator , iac, erg and now clutch to see if it will stop but whistle or squeal still there.

I don't know what to do now, no one knows where the sound comming from and it starts around 2000rpm. After my cams got done it started and it's getting louder and I hate it. I used to like it thinking it's a hidden supercharger but I know some thing is leaking and cannot find the source. I have checked all the vaccum source and came with nothing.'

Any help will be appreciated.

Hey guys....do you know of any tutorials or vids that show how to complete this change out....I am a computer guy and not a mech.....purchased the Hayes repair manual, but cant find the dang part in there.....good pics/description of engine overhauls, etc....but the closest I found is how to change out the Serp. belt!

Any help would be great!
