I don't believe I've seen anyone ask this on here before. For those of you who drive your Mustangs in the winter, what's a good winter tire I should get? I drove it on the stock Pirellis last winter and would prefer better traction this year :)

I'm selling my Jetta and will be putting winter tires on my fanblades. I drove the Stang in the snow last year, but I want more suited tires for better piece of mind.

You don't drive your mustang in the winter...EVER.

Buy a used Honda for $1500.

:)

I guess I'm mistaken, I thought he was asking for what kind of tires to use during the winter... not how to buy a beater. :bang:

I HATE these useless posts. :notnice:

Bud, it's NOT just $1500 for a Honda... some of us have high insurance because we're young, and adding another car is not free. You also have to take into account people who don't live in the middle of nowhere and have to PAY for their parking spot. Don't think we haven't ALREADY considered the idea of a beater, but unfortunately we're not all made of money with a 6 car garage and free additional insurance.

Now, go on with the chlorophyl.

I ran those on my WRX and loved 'em. For the Mustang I'm running Bridgestone Blizzack WS-50's. Little cheaper, more winter biased, less performance biased. Performing quite well so far. Either the Dunlops or Bridgestones are a big improvement over the stock tires.

WS-50's are being closed out and replaced with WS-60's which are better all-around from what I've read.

well for my 92 Cougar RWD and same weight as the new Mustang lol I put some Micheline X-ice tires... LOVED them! Good traction on snow and ice. Funny how I put some FWD to shame with this big ol' RWD car in the winter :) Tires are an important thing on a car and so is your driving style - don't forget.

I've used Dunlop Graspic DS-1's on mine, the car is awesome in the snow. You're probably safe with any winter tire from a recognizable brand.

I really don't know why Mustangs have such a bad rep for winter driving. It might be well deserved for the FOX days but since 1994 with the changes to the car and more importantly the changes in tire technology there is no reason whatsoever not to drive a DD Mustang in the winter. (I'm obviously not talking about collecter/show/race cars) A Mustang is no worse in the snow than a 2WD pickup, the only advantage trucks have is ground clearance. There's hundreds of thousands of trucks driven all year long that are V-8 and RWD, with worse weight distribution than a Stang and possibly without a limited slip.

Most of us can't afford two vehicles for the reasons seal614 pointed out (Thank You!!) I did the whole winter beater thing with my first GT and the overall cost of maintaining the second car was higher, not to mention the beater was unsafe and it would strand me all the time in the worst weather! I'm hoping to upgrade to a S197 soon and if I'm making payments on something, I'm sure has heck gonna drive it as much as I can as apposed to just staring at it five months a year!

I understand your points here, and I drove my first Mustang through the snow, but I'll never do that again. I've spent way too much on modifications to drive through the snow and salt and have it ruin them all. Especially exhaust and suspension.

I kept my stock 17" wheels for winter and put Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 (235/55) tires on them. Great winter grip and decent dry road manners as well. This is my second winter with them on and I have no complaints.

Well said, and I understand your reasoning, especially when it comes to road salt. They use a lot of salt here too.

When I said "there is no reason whatsoever not to drive a DD Mustang in the winter" I was refering to people who put their cars away because they think the car isn't driveable in the snow. With proper snow tires, I feel these cars are good in the snow (and a LOT of fun if you're not in a rush!)
