Burnout ??

Here it is illegal to do a burnout on private property. I (years ago) did a burn out in my 86GT in our work parking lot and a cop was driving by, turned around drove thru the parking lot (cop) like he was being chased by the Terminator, stopped my and wrote me a wreckless driving ticket. 6Pts and a $385.00 fine. I moved 3-feet. Now he drove like he did thru a bunch of parking spaces and yelled @ me for wreckless driving. He stated that on private property he can only site me for DUI or wreckless driving. Luckly for me, we know the guys @ the city garage and they spoke up for me. We work on some of there cars......... ticket was dropped.... woohoo....

That doesn't apply to his driveway though. If he put up a nice little sign that says private property do not enter, or something like that, he is safe. Your parking lot is property that is open to the public and his driveway would clearly be labeled otherwise.

I do it in my living room. follow it up with a hot and ready from little ceasars, a 2 liter of MT. dew, a bag of fun-yuns, and a half quart of rocky road while watching the Tick vs Season 1

so could you put up a sign that says "don't look", and then sprawl out naked on that same driveway and still be ok?????
just because it's private property, doesn't mean that illegal acts are no longer illegal........

i have personally done a burnout in front of a cop in my driveway while a cop was doing 20ish mph by my driveway-smoke everywhere. But I had two of my friends on their R6's sitting at the bottom of the driveway so the cop could not pull in. I got to say it felt really good to do a burnout in front of a cop and not get in trouble:D

you are no longer endangering other people or other peoples' property. the visual part has nothing to do with the law, whereas the law against public nudity is all about visuals.

litlle bit of an oxymoron going on there...
ok well i don't know what the laws are like in the states, but i can guarantee that it is illegal here. if you peel out, or do a burnout here, you can get charged with stunting, which is considered pretty serious. (i know the hard way) is stunting is legal there??? so are you saying it would be legal to get wasted, jump in your car thats in your driveway, and rev the **** out of your car? cuz up here, you would get charged with an impaired. i'm just not following your reasoning.

i can also guarantee that you would be violating noise bylaws, which makes it illegal in another aspect.

i did a burnout right in front of my mom's house in broad day light. had to see if the tune up worked, lol. just a good reason to burn off some old tires in my crownvic. here it is http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=19651145
thats my brother the camera man trying not to laugh, taken with my camera phone.

sad thing is that the car didn't even shift out of 1st and i was at 45mph, guess i need to ditch the 2.73 open diff.

i dont see how? a dragstrip is on private property and burnouts and done there. also so what if it can be seen? i know of more than one dragstrip that can be seen from the road!
if a cop said something about me doing a burnout on my own driveway i would have to tell him to SAFD!

Sorry I wasn't clear. You get ticketed for reckless driving because it endangers others. The law for reckless driving has nothing to do with the visual aspect. The nudity thing was a bad example.

A person shall be guilty of reckless driving who operates any motor vehicle at a speed or in a manner so as to endanger the life, limb, or property of any person:

1. On any driveway or premises of a church, school, recreational facility, or business property open to the public; or

2. On the premises of any industrial establishment providing parking space for customers, patrons, or employees; or....

that excludes your private driveway

i'm not trying to get in a pissing match or anything here, but a burnout is not legal anywhere around here! a race track is one thing. i don't know, but i'm guessing they have some sort of permits to allow what goes on there. pretty sure i haven't seen any speed limit signs lately that say it's ok to go 160mph.... but in a controlled environment, it is apparently allowed.

since you don't like the negged one, here's a different scenario... so what if you're doing a burnout in your driveway as some kid is walking down the PUBLIC sidewalk in front of it, and your foot slips off the brake, or they fail, or something like that? is that not a possible threat to public safety? i would guarantee that almost anywhere in north america, there is some law violated by doing a burnout in a residential area, whether you own the property it is done on or not.

another point: your support was for wreckless driving.... a burnout is not necessarily wreckless driving, there are probably several offences you could be cited for.

i dont know why, but i'm so caught up in this thread. why do you think that because you own the property that laws dont apply to what you do on it???? is it legal to sell drugs from your house, if nobody sees you do it???

also, you didn't answer whether or not you think you could jump in your car wasted, rev the **** out of it (even with never putting it in gear), and think you couldn't get charged....??? i think thats a pretty fair comparison.... and i know for a fact whether thats legal or not.......

i just noticed the angry face! did you get a ticket or something?

Well no, I was told it was illegal but I want to make a video and theres no track near me....oh well Ill just make one...by the time anyone gets there Ill be done...Ill say some guy in a honda came over and did a burnout in my driveway and left :D

He didn't state driveway he just said private property.
Also the thing about the dragstrip,, come on. That is considered a closed course and is allowed. Try doing the burn out in the parking lot of the dragstrip and see what happens. I know @ our local strip (taht is hut down now) there were cops patroling on foot to keep it safe for us and our family's.
I was wrong for doing what I did, and learned from it.:nice:
