The 2007 Official College Football Thread

LSU Daily Reveille said:
LSU coach Les Miles was almost brought to tears at his weekly press luncheon today when speaking about the rumors surrounding the job opening at his alma mater, Michigan.

Miles commented on Michigan at the conclusion of his opening statement and refused to answer any additional questions about the matter.

"I'm not talking jobs, don't look for jobs, don't want jobs," Miles said. "I have a great job. I love this place."

Lloyd Carr, who won a national title and five Big Ten titles in 13 seasons with the Wolverines, announced early this morning that he would step down as head coach at the conclusion of this season.

"As an alumnus of that school, I'm happy [Carr] was our coach," Miles said.

In an ironic twist, it was year ago today that Miles had to postpone his weekly Monday press conference to attend the funeral of former Michigan coach Bo Schembechler, who Miles played for and coached under at Michigan for several years.

Now, once again, most of the mid-November talk around the LSU football program is about Miles and a former Michigan coach, and not on the Tigers quest for a conference and national championship.

After a few moments on the Michigan topic, Miles was almost brought to tears when speaking about his current team, and said he is focused solely on LSU and Friday's home finale against Arkansas.

"What I'm doing is what you should do," he said. "Let it rest.

"I love this team, and I'm not going to do anything to hurt it."

The writting is on the wall all LSU needs to do is admit it.....

Les Miles will go to Michigan for the 08 season...... You heard it hear first....

Rumor has it that Carr doesn't like Miles hence the reason he announced so early. Makes the timing for him taking the job all screwed up since he doesn't want to miss a chance of a NC. If we lose to Arky Friday look for his announcement to leave on Saturday.

i disagree with SEC over rated.... remember, lsu just lost in triple overtime to ANOTHER SEC TEAM being arky...... doesnt mean sec is overrated, just means it's as hard as everyone makes it out to be

The funny thing is, that in any other conference if there is alot of teams with similar records its because all the teams are average. But if its the SEC its because all the team are good.

Its a joke. Go look at the conference W-L records against good teams from other conferences, you ahve 1 LSU over Va Tech.

Couple that with the following

Tennesee losing big to Cal who is the 3rd or 4th best team in the Pac 10 and Tenn is #2 in the SEC.

Auburn losing at home to USF who is near the bottom of the Big East.

Alabama losing to a weak FSU and to Louisiana Monroe

Miss State getting curb stomped by another Big East team in WVU

Ole Miss getting beat by Missouri

So thats 1 - 6 against descent teams in other major conferences.

Id say that is the definition of over-rated. The other teams not in the list above didnt play any good teams in other BCS conferences.

You can talk smack about Ohio State all you want but most of your non-conference scheudels are as big of a joke. Besides I dont see UF or LSU running to schedule Texas or USC like OSU did.

Hell even the "weak" big 10 has as many bowl eligible teams as the SEC and only 1 less team in the top 25 in the BCS.

the other issue i have with your facts is due to the whole schedule in itself.

look at what these teams play through in the sec.... a fluke OOC loss isnt strange. most of the losses have good reasoning behind them, but i'm not going to sit here and spell it out. the point being, if you play a schedule in the SEC like UF, LSU, etc. play, your OOC games OF COURSE could easily be losses, due to being banged the eff up from the sec game play.

like i have said multiple times before. nobody can claim to be a "good" team or division this year, or any year really, until they get rid of the bs BCS crap, and have a playoff. until they have a playoff, everyone will be biased the way they are, and can pull up facts to show their own opinion, but it wont matter to the guy on the other side of the argument. so i'm not going to argue, unless i'm arguing for a playoff system

All I am saying is for a conference that is supposed to be head and shoulders above everyone else, sure lost alot of games to the crappier conferences. And your point about the SEC teams being beat up is kinda moot because most of those games take place before the SEC season starts.

Im not saying LSU, Georgia, Auburn, Florida, etc wouldnt be awesome in other conferences, but they wouldnt dominate like you SEC fans think they would.

I am all for a playoff but any more than 8 and imo it would lessen the importance of the regular season.

Well it looks to be shaping up to see West Virginia vs Ohio State in the title game.

Chances are whoever wins the missouri vs Kansas game will lose to Oklahoma in the title game so unless WVU loses to Connecticut thats what I see it to be.

BCS Title Game - #1 West Virginia vs #2 Ohio State
Rose Bowl - USC vs Michigan
Sugar Bowl - LSU vs Oklahoma
Fiesta Bowl - Arizona State vs Hawaii
Orange Bowl - Virginia Tech vs Georgia

I'm not counting WVU into the title game yet. I know everyone here in town wants to say they're going, but I have to see what happens between Missouri and Kansas.

WVU had better stomp UConn today or I will be so, so ashamed. No more sloppy games like they've had the last two weeks.

As long as they beat Uconn they are in no matte what. LSU lost and either Kansas or Missouri will lose.
