The 2007 Official College Football Thread

i cant believe tebow played like 2 quarters with a broken hand.... what a freaking beast

edit: link to the hand article: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3127002

He is a good player, but good lord Gator nation he is not God.

Hell if I were starting a new team Id rather have the guy from Missouri. He is doing more with less than Tebow.

But I agree with CO McFadden will win the heisman and imo deserves it.

i never called him God, just said he's a beast. he is a very good player, and i would absolutely take him over the missouri guy, due to the fact that tebow doesnt just have those stats because of others, yes, they do help, but he makes very good decisions, making him a very good pick for a college team.

i still dont think mcfadden should/will win it, we'll have to see

uhhhh what about UGA? lsu would have to pass them somehow, and i wouldnt see that happening at this point
The talking heads at ESPN reason that since UGA didn't win the SEC East then the voters would give LSU the nod if they beat the Vols in the SECCG and would move them ahead in the human polls. Granted it would have been much better if Kentucky had beaten UT and we played UGA instead.

Oh...km...I'm not smoking anything. I know that if we were to make it to the NCG then the world must have tilted off it's axis. But this is the 2007 College Football season where a team like Appy St can make hell freeze over and beat UM in the "Big House" Devil was a cold mofo that day.

tebow remains in first on espn's heisman watch....

here's the quote on the page as to why they put him as first:
"1. Tim Tebow, Florida
A quarterback who ranks second nationally in passing efficiency, throws for 3,100 yards and 29 touchdowns with only six intercetions, has had a tremendous year. But what if that quarterback also has run for 838 yards and 22 touchdowns? Then you get out of his way and hand him the Heisman."

just hope the actual heisman voters think the same way!

yeah, i agree with that. osu would get raped by wvu, but with lsu, i still think osu would lose, but not nearly as badly

I dont know, I really think they have a good shot at LSU. LSUs defense imo is suspect and their offense plays against the strenghts of the OSU defense. I wouldnt bet on them to win but wouldnt suprised at all.

On the other hand OSU would lose to Florida, WVU, Oregon with Dixon, or other teams like that that run the spread offense with a good running QB.

I'm anxiously waiting to see what happens with mizzou/Oklahoma.

At any rate, if WVU plays for the national championship and loses there will be furniture burning in the streets here. I almost hate to think what will happen if they win

OSU does struggle with the spread offense in a big way and as a Buckeye fan, that really bothers me since it tends to be a style of offense that isn't consistent enough week in and week out to win a title with it. Sure, Florida did it last year, but that was due more to their defense being so efficient in getting our offense to go 3 and out all freakin' game and not giving our defense a chance to catch their breath and make adjustments. Look at Illinois, they came into the Shoe and beat us, yet they still found a way to loose 3 games with their spread O, including a loss to Iowa, who is terrible this year! That is more typical of the spread than Florida last year.

Anyways, if Mizzou or WV do loose and OSU makes it to the big game, look for a much better performance out of them than that embarrassment of a performance last year. This year we'll have a QB who isn't missing half the practices getting fat on the banquet circuit.

How about this scenario

Big 10 Winner - Ohio State
Big Eas Winner - West Virginia
Big 12 Winner - Oklahoma
SEC Winner - LSU
ACC Winner - Virginia Tech
Pacific 10 Winner - USC
Non BCS Team Automatic Bid - Hawaii
At Large Bid - Georgia

1 - WVU
8 - Hawaii

3 - LSU
6 - USC

4 - Virginai Tech
5 - Oklahoma

2 - Ohio State
7 - Georgia

I think last years title game was a perfect storm, I do not think OSU was as bad as they looked. I dont think they are better than Florida, but Florida kept hearing how they were going to lose bad and Ohio State heard how good they were. Ohio State was also off for like 2months and that definatly hurts them.

But I will say good luck to OSU vs West Virginia, youre going to need it.

I couldn't agree more. I am not saying OSU would beat WV if they get the chance, but they will play much better than last year's title game. Not only did Florida come in with the underdog chip on their shoulder, OSU played (and coached) about the worst game they've had since Tressle got there. At least our loss last year wasn't the beginning of the end like Miami's loss to the underdog Buckeyes was for them in '02 :p

Oh yeah, I'd like to see an 8 team playoff system as well. 1st round would be a home game for the higher ranked teams, Semis would kick off the bowl season the week before Christmas, then the Championship and runner up game on New Year's Day. Rotate the final 4 games between the 4 current BCS bowls and keep the rest of the bowls intact. On the other hand, I'm not too worried about preserving the heritage of the bowl tradition since that was corrupted years ago with the addition of all the bowl games that pit the likes of the WAC #3 vs the MAC#2, etc... When there are 26 or 27 bowls and all you have to do is win 6 games to go to one, there's not a whole lot of specialness left.

i think a lot of it was also OSU had yet to face a team like florida. if you compare the way teams play, the sec is so different from the big 10, who's so different from the big 12, who's so different from the yadda yadda yadda...... nobody plays the same, and you never know what to expect when 2 teams from opposite "worlds" come together. OSU got owned by speed and a hard as hell defense. the spread is a good system, if it's executed properly. next year, watch UF, it's going to be scary how good that spread system is.

but for now, if OSU makes it, good luck to them, it'd hurt to have 2 huge losses in a row, definitely an impact on their "good name"
